iPhone app notifies you via AirPods if you have poor posture

iPhone app notifies you via AirPods if you have poor posture

As long as you keep your AirPods on, an iPhone app can help you sit properly while playing video games, sitting at your desk, or watching TV.

An app called PosturePal uses a motion-tracking feature in iOS 15 that can position your head as you’re wearing your AirPods and alert you if your posture is bad.

iPhone App PosturePal to Help You Fix Your Posture

The free app is available for download on the App Store. However, it comes with a one-time purchase of $1.99, so you can unlock all of its features, according to 9to5Mac.

PosturePal’s design is easy to navigate, and you’re greeted with a character who reacts when you tilt your head the wrong way. Once you use the app, you are given a score that will let you know how well you did for the day.

In an interview with TechRadar’s Daryl Baxter, the app’s developer Jordi Bruin talks about how PosturePal came about and how they plan to help their user with their posture.

Bruin revealed that the first version of the app was up and running in just 10 minutes in October 2021. He revealed that the API was clear, and he found great sample code on GitHub, which allowed him to test whether the idea would be feasible.

The PosturePal app is available for iOS users with AirPods and iPhone. Bruin said he asked Apple users if there were any issues that might still need to be resolved.

Since Bruin had access to the AirPods Max during that time, he couldn’t test all the different supported headphones. The problem with the regular AirPods and AirPods Pro is that many people wear them the wrong way.

For example, users may lean further than they should. Bruin said he knows how he wants to fix it, but it’s a tough problem to test when he has to borrow AirPods from his friends.

How PosturePal App Works

The app can benefit your neck, back and shoulders. The app will give you a gentle nudge to make sure your head is straight. According to the iOS hacker, it will also help keep the currency at the top of the user’s mind.

Bruin said he’s trying to add stuff like shortcut support to automatically start a session when a user connects to his AirPods.

According to TechRadar’s Daryl Baxter, users will experience pings and vibrations from the app, and they will be instructed to keep their heads upright.

As for notifications, Bruin said they plan to update the app to offer a push notification. However, they’re still studying why people want a notification through the AirPods rather than a subtle sound they’re already used to.

Widgets are currently missing from PosturePal, despite being popular in iOS 14 and iPadOS 15. Bruin said they are working on it because they want to keep the first release small and focus on the user experience, but users can expect a full history view, widget. Progress over time, and more features soon.

In October 2021, iOS 14 introduced several iPhone health widgets, including a heart rate monitor, calorie counter, bedtime, and more.

Meanwhile, iOS 15 introduced a number of iPhone apps that focused on the well-being of the user, including the storage of medical records.
