Twitter’s long-awaited edit button on Android might look like this [Updated]

Twitter’s community has been asking for the ability to edit out typos and other errors in tweets for years, and Finally The social network confirmed that an edit button was coming. Now, we are able to uncover an early look.

9to5google contributory Dylan Roussel Twitter was able to enable the edit button on the web prior to the feature’s formal launch, giving us an idea of what the functionality would look like. As a reminder, social networks on April 5 said Months of testing were ahead before the feature became widely available to Twitter Blue customers. In that time, editing capabilities can change a lot more than what’s seen below.

We’re starting testing within @twitterblue Labs over the coming months to learn what works, what doesn’t, and what’s possible.

Twitter

In its current state, the Edit button on Twitter looks exactly as you’d expect it to. Existing Tweets get an “Edit Tweet” button in their overflow menu, and pressing that button pulls up an editor for the content of the Tweet. You can fix typos or add to Tweets, and press “Update” to apply the edits.

Of course, it doesn’t really work yet, with a failure message when pressing the update button. It is also unclear what Twitter will show when the tweet is edited. Many have asked and assumed that there would be a form of history for the tweets. Depending on how things look at the moment, there’s also no timer to edit tweets after they were initially sent.

Update 4/23: In the latest update to Twitter for Android, Dylan Roussel was again able to highlight what the editing function would look like in the app. Specifically, he was able to see what a tweet might look like after it was edited, with a small banner that said “There is a new version of this tweet.” An edit icon also appears at the top of the tweet to show that it has been changed.

jane wongo recently found That edit button will not technically replace an existing Tweet, but will replace that Tweet with the edited content. Essentially, the Edit button will serve as a more intuitive version of the delete-and-replace action that most Twitter users employ today. One edit history It also appears to be in development.

Twitter still has plenty of time to refine the feature, however, as previously confirmed the editing functionality will only be available in beta form at first, and will only be available to Blue users at first.
