It was more than evident that the Google Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro were missing one more brother. In fact, at the end of last year its design was leaked and its specifications began to be discussed. As well, Rumors and hypotheses are over because we already have here the new Google Pixel 6a.

A design without surprises, although with remarkable details

Pixel 6

Logically, the most striking thing about this Pixel 6a is its cuts compared to the standard and ‘Pro’ versions. However, it was something to be expected in a mobile phone aimed at an audience looking for cheaper smartphones. At the level of design follows the same lines, with curved sides, a very used front and in which only a small disturbance is seen through the camera hole. On the back we find an identical alteration to the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro to integrate the camera module and the main antenna.

However, we are surprised that its screen decreases compared to its predecessor, since the Pixel 5a had a 6.34-inch screen that is now reduced to 6.1 on the OLED panel of the Pixel 6a. Nevertheless, it is heavier and bulkier than the aforementioned Pixel 5a. Unfortunately the screen does not incorporate 90 or 120 Hzsomething that is already democratizing outside the high range, but Google seems to continue reserving it for its most cutting-edge phones.

A nice surprise for performance

Google Pixel 6a

As far as performance is concerned, it is appreciated that this Pixel 6a mounts the same processor as its older brothers. The chip created by Google in collaboration with Samsung which they baptized as Tensor is present in this smartphone, which has already proven to be reliable in providing good overall performance and being especially efficient in complex processes such as those of Google’s artificial intelligence.

This chip is accompanied by a single memory version, both for RAM and ROM. Of the kind LPDDR5 we met with 6GB RAMwhile for internal storage you will have to settle for 128GB. Would a 256 GB version have been interesting? Without a doubt, but in the end it is one of the points where Google has to cut and differentiate with respect to the Pixel 6.

Other outstanding data are the battery of 4,410mAhless than the 4,600 of the Pixel 6 and the 5,000 of the Pixel 6 Pro. There are also cut in fast charging staying at 25 W. For some reason that has not officially transpired, Google is, along with Samsung and Apple, one of the main manufacturers that refuse to adopt ultra-fast charges as other competitors already do.

Price and availability of the Google Pixel 6a

Google Pixel 6a New

As we were saying, Google only offers one version of the Pixel 6a. You can, yes, choose between one of its three colors: white, teal and black. At the moment they have not confirmed their arrival on the market globally, announcing only their price in the United States. A price that, by the way matches that of the Pixel 5a. It can be pre-purchased in the North American country from July 21while we are waiting to see if it finally reaches markets like Spanish.
