You’ll soon be able to cast from your phone to your car or Chromebook

Google is also bringing casting capabilities to new partners

While it might not be the biggest announcement at Google I/O, the news that you’ll soon be able to put your phone right in your car and Chromebook is still exciting. The ability to stream apps to your laptop was seen in Android 13 beta, but it looks like a smoother experience for video casting.

Casting video directly from your phone to your car’s display will allow you to bypass Android Auto. While we don’t know many details just yet, the announcement shows a YouTube video casting a car to a phone. Whether video will work while driving is unknown, but it is likely to switch to audio while driving due to potential distraction.

You’ll also be able to cast videos from your phone or tablet directly to your Chromebook, so you can switch screens without having to find the video again. All of this together means you’ll be able to start watching a video on your phone, continue listening while driving, then put it on your laptop seamlessly.

List of companies with Google Casting

Google is also working on bringing casting capabilities to new products. The list of companies featured at I/O includes names like Bose, Sony, Sennheiser, and Vizio, so expect better integration with your Android phone across a wider range of devices soon.
