ZTE announces nubia Z40S Pro with Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1



ZTE announced in China nubia Z40S Proan update to the nubia Z40 Pro launched in the first half of 2022 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. The ZTE nubia Z40S Pro improves its processor to Qualcomm’s flagship, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, plus some other features that we review in this note.

ZTE nubia Z40S Pro: details and specifications

ZTE promotes the nubia Z40S Pro as the world’s cheapest smartphone with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipwith a price of just 500 dollars, beating rivals from Realme or Redmi, cheap brands from Oppo and Xiaomi.

In terms of features, the nubia Z40S Pro has a 6.67-inch OLED screen with FHD + resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate, 480Hz touch sampling that enables it for gamers, and integrates the fingerprint reader below.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset is joined by up to 18GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 3.1 storage and a vapor chamber heat dissipation system to keep the chip stable.

The main camera features a 64MP 35mm Sony IMX787 sensor with f/1.6 aperture and optical image stabilization. The ultrawide camera is 50MP, also allowing macro photos with a focal length of 2cm. The third lens is an 8MP periscope telephoto lens with OIS.

The set of cameras is assisted by nubia NEOVision technology that improves the quality of photos, and the selfie camera is 16MP in front.

The nubia Z40S Pro has a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 80W fast charging. There is another variant with a 4600 mAh battery, which compensates with a smaller profile and 120W fast charge.

Availability and price of the ZTE nubia Z40S Pro

The 80W charging and 5000 mAh battery variant of the nubia Z40S pro starts at the 8GB/128GB variant for $500, up to the top of the range 12GB/512GB for $660 – Chinese prices.

The 120W charging version comes in 12GB/512GB and 18GB/1TB versions, priced at $640 and $990, respectively. Available colors are green and black.
