A new investigation by Bloomberg highlighted a big problem of pedophilia on Twitch, underlining some negative dynamics present on the Amazon platform. The boom that this platform has had over the last few years is undeniable, thanks first to the pandemic and then to a whole series of trend that have prompted people to come both as spectators and as content creator. The great possibilities that Twitch gave people, in the creative field, they pushed towards a plurality of contents with a multifaceted flavor. Not only stream related to gaming therefore, but alsoand just chatting, IRL and so on and so forth. Furthermore, the proponents of the aforementioned contents they move across a wide age rangeleading to new reflections.
Starting from all this, the journalists of Bloomberg they began to analyze all those accounts they tend to followusually speaking, the live shows of children and pre-adolescents, examining a huge number of them. The numbers coming out of this study are staggering, about 279,000 account on average.
The phenomenon of live shows made by children and pre-teens is by no means new on Twitch; the result, however, of such a creative attitude directly affects some communities of pedophiles who over time have learned to classify the phenomenonalso intervening directly on the chats of these content creator, thus building a direct confrontation with them. The investigation of Bloomberg he also highlighted the moves of these people, who have no qualms about trying to manipulate children taking advantage of threats on a regular basis.
On the other hand, however, we find a platform that it is not taking any direct steps to counteract this kind of toxic and negative interactions, such as did the competition. At the moment there is no direct control over the accounts and their possibilities of directing without any limits. In this Twitch it should definitely improve and bring much more attention to both those who can create new accounts and to shadow followers.
