Dynamic Island is nothing new: This company already had it in 2018!

Along with the introduction of its latest smartphones – the iPhone 14 – Apple launched a new feature called Dynamic Island. Specifically, it only applies to the two more powerful variants, which offer a new design element in the form of a pill cutout. The feature is really attractive and useful, but it’s definitely not the first of its kind.

Dynamic Island is an interactive panel that offers quick access to the basic controls of selected applications. It grows right out of the pill cutout, which is why the function is only available on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. This panel offers, for example, information/access to the connected AirPods, navigation, stopwatch or currently playing music. Check out the gallery below for a better idea.

Apple was not the first

Although Apple presents Dynamic Island as a unique novelty, it is not. The original concept dates back to 2018. And no, it didn’t come from Apple. At that time, it was introduced in a much simpler form by the then sub-brand of Huawei, Honor.

As the server writes Huawei Central, the function of an interactive island at that time was offered by the Honor View 20 model. It extended from the circular cut-out for the selfie camera located in the upper left corner of the screen. It was useful, for example, during phone calls, when it provided the user with information about the duration of the call.

However, Honor did not promote this function enough, so it fell into oblivion for a while. Now, four years later, Apple has been inspired by her. The latter, unlike Honor, used its full potential and positioned it as one of the main attractions of its new smartphones.

Several developers are now trying to copy the Dynamic Island feature. There is even an application that completes the island for any Android device. You can read more about this topic in a separate article.
