iOS 15.4—Update Now Warning Issued to All iPhone Users

Apple’s iOS 15.4 upgrade has been released, along with a slew of great new iPhone features. But iOS 15.4 also comes with a warning for updating now, as it fixes 39 security issues, some of which are serious.

Apple doesn’t provide much details about what’s fixed in iOS 15.4 so that more people can update their iPhones before attackers can catch the details. Among the security vulnerabilities fixed in iOS 15.4 are several issues in WebKit, the engine that powers Apple’s Safari browser.

According to Apple’s support page, iOS 15.4 also fixes problems in the kernel that could allow arbitrary code execution through a malicious app. Several recently patched issues by Apple—such as the single but serious flaw fixed in iOS 15.3.1—have been fixed after they were used to attack iPhones. But thankfully none of the vulnerabilities fixed in iOS 15.4 are yet to be used in an active attack.

Still, many of the issues fixed in iOS 15.4 are serious, which means you should update your iPhone now, if at all possible. Independent security researcher Sean Wright says there are vulnerabilities that allow access to the kernel level, which is “as bad as it gets”.

This — chained with some other iPhone vulnerabilities — could allow opponents to launch attacks from afar, he says.

Although none of the vulnerabilities patched in iOS 15.4 are being actively exploited, Wright recommends updating your iPhone as soon as possible: “Don’t panic, but update as soon as possible.”

iOS 15.4 has arrived, along with a huge list of security updates.

Reasons to upgrade to iOS 15.4 now

Apple’s iOS 15.4 upgrade comes with some cool new features, like updates to iCloud Keychain and the ability to easily use Face ID while wearing a mask. Apple also released all of its updates on the same day, including those for Macs, a ground-breaking first for the iPhone maker.

When iOS 15 was first launched, Apple released important security updates for iPhones still on iOS 14. Sadly, that’s no longer the case, which means you need to upgrade to iOS 15.4 to be safe.

so what are you waiting for? Go to Settings > General > Software Update and upgrade to iOS 15.4 now. Along with enjoying some great new features, you can rest assured that your iPhone is as secure as possible.
