Android app that promises to improve phone performance steals your bank details

Cybersecurity experts warn users of Android about a new banking Trojan called “xenomorph”. The most dangerous thing is that it is hidden in the Google Play Store just like any other app and its victims downloaded the malware with no idea what would happen.

The goal of “xenomorph” in Android is to steal bank details and is hosted by the Fast Cleaner app, which promises to improve the performance of smartphones by removing unwanted data from the app. However, when you install it, you are downloading dangerous malware on the phone.

“xenomorph” uses screen overlays to trick the user into entering usernames and passwords; it also collects information about infected devices and reads users’ text messages.

This feature allows malware to intercept login credentials for bank accounts and webmail accounts. You can also collect temporary codes that you use with two-step authentication and other notifications sent to your phone via text messages.

To protect yourself from malware and Trojans, you need to be careful where you get your apps from. Android. Still, the safest source is the Play Store with Google Play Protect. Also, take a closer look at the permissions required by the app. If the app requires too many permissions, you’d better find an alternative.
