A great processor, very good quality in its photos and videos, a simple interface, among others, are characteristics that stand out in the iPhone. Although there have been comments about tricks, shortcuts and hidden functions in iOS devices, very little is said about an important function that could save the life of any user of the phones of the Cupertino company.

Nobody expects to make use of this tool, but we never know when it might come in handy. The portal LaVanguardia.com dedicated a note to the SOS emergency service included in the iPhone and how to activate it.

This feature allows you to quickly call for help. With a button you can communicate with the assistance services or with a completely trustworthy contact in the event of any eventuality. This is usually a local support number, set by default on the device. However, in some countries you can choose who to communicate with. In China you can select between firefighters, police or an ambulance.

How does SOS work on iPhone?

Using the emergency function you can make a call to a support service and once it is finished it will send a text message (SMS) to the contacts you have chosen. It will show your location and notify them if you change locations, unless you hit the cancel button.

How to call an emergency service?

Activating this feature varies depending on the model of iPhone you have. If you have an iPhone 7 or earlier, follow these steps.

  • Quickly press the side or top button five times.
  • You will see the Emergency SOS slider appear on the screen.
  • Swipe to activate the services and the call will be made immediately

Remember that after the call, the contacts you have placed in the “Emergency Contacts” list will receive an SMS with your location.

The process is very similar in the iPhone 8 or in more current devices. Follow the instructions that Mag El Comercio has prepared for you.

  • Press and hold the Side button and one of the Volume buttons until the Emergency SOS slider appears.
  • Slide over the Emergency SOS bar to contact local assistance services.

If you press and hold the mentioned buttons and do not activate the bar on the screen, a countdown will begin and at the end of the countdown, the iPhone will call the number configured as emergency service.
