Apple is requesting the Indian government to allow its refurbished smartphones to be sold in the country. However, India nevertheless rejected the request.

The decision was confirmed by an anonymous official of the Ministry of Telecom. But, what exactly is the reason for the rejection?

Why does India say no to Apple’s refurbished iPhones?

According to the latest CNET report, the Indian government has not confirmed why it rejected the iPhone maker’s request.

But, some critics claimed that Apple’s competitors may have helped the rejection happen. The company’s rivals argued that if Apple was allowed to sell its refurbished smartphones, used devices in the country would overflow.

Many of them also said that the target of the giant tech firm’s iPhone refurbished sales request is contrary to the Indian government’s Make-in-India project.

For those who are not aware of this program, Make-in-India is an initiative of the Government of India that encourages companies to manufacture their products locally.

One of the benefits provided by this project is new employment opportunities for the residents of the country.

In addition to the used iPhone sales request, Apple is also planning to open its first retail store in the country. But, this initiative is still awaiting the approval of the government.

Is it good to buy a refurbished iPhone?

When you say refurbished, it means that other consumers are already using the device. However, unlike second-hand smartphones sold by other buyers or resellers, refurbished iPhones are used by Apple for repair and maintenance.

This means that these used devices are made to look and feel like brand new, as reported by MacPaw.

In addition to being in brand new condition, Apple also includes all accessories in a more budget-friendly deal. If you want to see more details about refurbished iPhones, click on this link.
