While the voter scores between all four phones were extremely close (all falling within 0.4 of each other), two phones stood out against you – Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro Max and Google’s Pixel 7 Pro. The two were virtually inseparable, but some last-minute polling pushed the Pixel 7 Pro ahead (by just 0.02) to win the 2022 Reader’s Choice Award for Best Camera Phone.
Both received the largest share of results with grades of four or above, with 63.8% of voters giving the Pixel 7 Pro a higher score and 62.8% scoring the same for the highest-end iPhone. Clearly, voters overall were impressed. But considering its more affordable pricing than all the other competitors in the shootout, it’s a notable win for the Pixel 7 Pro.
The Pixel 7 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max got mostly high marks from our readers.
Our readership is clearly very demanding in the camera department, with the Xperia 1 IV and Galaxy S22 Ultra receiving just one score from just over 10% of voters, and nearly 25% of voters giving these phones a score of two or less. Issuing. Harsh, but we’d certainly agree that the Sony flagship struggles to deliver consistently bright and vivid shots to its competitors, while Samsung’s best had poorly pronounced noise and portraits in some of the snaps we took. There are issues.
More Pixel 7 Pro camera shootouts:
a worthy winner
Pixel 7 Pro has already won Android Authorization 2022 Editors’ Choice and Readers’ Choice Awards for best all-around smartphone, so it’s an excellent clean sweep for Google’s flagships this year. Though it’s perhaps more surprising how close the iPhone 14 Pro Max came in the reader’s vote. With hidden branding, Apple’s premium flagship could clearly impress the Android faithful.
Truth be told, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro have been on our and essentially everyone’s photography radar since their launch. From stunning everyday photos as seen here, and industry-leading astrophotography capabilities to an impressive Super Res zoom, and software features that include Portrait Enhancement, Magic Eraser, and more. Google has made photography a core part of its Pixel identity, and that work has clearly paid dividends as it can hang with the best, and get better.
Google’s Pixel 7 Pro is a worthy winner. Congratulations, Google!
