MSI gives the GeForce RTX 4090 a classy makeover with the new SUPRIM X Classic Edition

MSI has decided to introduce the GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card with the classic SUPRIM cooler, known as the SUPRIM X Classic.

MSI takes the classy route with its GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM X Classic custom graphics card

MSI has an interesting idea for reusing their previous-gen coolers with the new cards. The company has already announced its Radeon RX 7900 Gaming Treo Classic cards that use the previous Treo cooler and for the RTX 4090, the company looks to introduce the card in a variant that uses the 1st Gen SUPRIM cooler. does. Both cards are listed on MSI’s Chinese webpage:

The MSI GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM X Classic is bigger than ever with a heavier and larger cooler, weighing 2.4kg versus the new design’s 2.16kg, while measuring 7.8cm wide versus 7.1cm on the new version. Previous SUPRIM X coolers used Torx Fan 2.0 and Tri Frozr 2S designs while the new models use Torx Fan 4.0 and Tri Frozr 3S designs. We’ve used both cards, the new and old SUPRIM X variants, and we know that the differences between these models aren’t much other than a few visual changes and the way the heatsink is made.

As for the specifications, since both the SUPRIM X heatsinks are pretty capable, MSI has retained the same boost clock of 2640 MHz, but the TDP is yet to be confirmed. This is likely to remain the same with 530W of power peaking at the limit and delivered by a single 16-pin connector.

Both cards have a dual BIOS switch and feature a full-length backplate with a 3.8-slot design. Now, MSI may be offering better prices on its classic GeForce RTX 4090 variant, which would make the SUPRIM X seem like a better value than ASUS’s ROG STRIX lineup, providing the same cooler temperatures and lower-noise levels that we’ve seen on MSI’s ROG STRIX lineup. Love SUPRIM. X series of graphics cards.
