We are going to explain what a international telephone code. In addition, we show you the complete list so that you know which country does a phone number belong to. With the information we provide you, it will be easier for you to know who has called you or, at least, from which country in the world.
What are international telephone codes?
Most people are used to interacting on the phone with people from their closest environment. And if they have to make a call to a stranger, the usual thing is that the phone they dial belongs to their own country. We can say that, as a general rule, international calls are infrequent among users.
That said, you should know that each country has its own format for phones. So that you can see the differences, here are two examples that undoubtedly attract a lot of attention:
- In Spain mobile phones are made up of 9 digits expressed without hyphens or spaces, although it is common to see them written like this: 6XX 7XX 8XX. Or this way: 6XX 7X 8X 9X.
- In USA an area code or prefix is used for telephone numbers. Its most common format is 408-XXX-XXXX.
Where do we want to go with all this? The aforementioned shows that each state has its own system for granting telephone numbers. When someone makes a national call, the operator knows how to perfectly interpret the format of the number. Now if it is a international callit is possible that this task is carried out with errors due to the discrepancies that exist between the different countries.
The solution to all this mess is the international calling codes. These are placed at the beginning of the phone number and tell the operator two things:
- That the call is international.
- To which country the call is directed.
Continuing with the previous example, for call the United States from SpainIn addition to knowing the region code and the rest of the digits, it is crucial to identify the country. Therefore, on your phone you should dial the following:
- +1 408-XXX-XXXX (it is not necessary to add the spaces, since once the international code is entered, the device already knows which format to apply)
How to dial an international number on an Android mobile
Now you know what an international calling code is and what it is for. However, it is good that we show you what you must do to call abroad using the destination country identifier.
By dialing the country code you want to call, the phone app already takes care of giving it the most convenient format
Follow these steps to get it:
- Open the phone app and access the dial, where the number pad is displayed.
- Long press on the key 0. If you look closely, the + symbol appears next to the number.
- The + symbol will have already been added. Enter the country code.
- Write the rest of the phone numbers.
In the previous screenshot, you can see how the Android phone application adds the appropriate hyphens when it detects that it is a United States phone number.
