While today’s typical consumer is often in a rush to get their hands on the latest iProducts, Apple’s older accessories have retained their value.
Here are some of the most coveted old electronics that could be a good pay day for your eBay account.
original ipod
When the iPod was first released, it was an instant hit – it became a window into anyone’s personality.
In Walter Isaacson’s biography of Jobs, he explains that the device’s release had everyone asking each other “What’s on your iPod?”
Reporters even asked President George Bush about his tunes at the height of the iPod craze.
A factory-sealed first-generation iPod is listed on eBay for an astonishing $23,000 — while an undamaged first-gen iPod can be a rare find indeed, a working one can fetch you $1,500 on Etsy.
clamshell ibook
The iBook looks clunky by today’s standards, but its thick clamshell design and color choices were cutting-edge at the time, making a memorable appearance in the 2001 film Legally Blonde.
It was the first laptop to truly harness Wi-Fi and mobile computing, normalizing work, school, and game attendance on the go.
The iBook goes for a range of prices on eBay, mostly hovering around $200 — but one seller with a collection of iBooks is asking $2,499 for one of his units.
early iphone
Just 74 days after launch, Apple made adjustments to its initial lineup of handsets in an announcement celebrating the sale of one million iPhones.
In the same statement, the company decided to discontinue the four-gigabyte version and center around the eight-gigabyte version.
As a result, the four-gigabyte version is rarer and more valuable than the original, even though it has less storage power.
There are limited quantities of boxed, never activated 4 GB first generation iPhones on eBay, starting around $5,000 on the low end up to $10,000.
But a used, functional four GB iPhone is still a solid chunk of change for a retired gadget sitting in a drawer.
Working, pre-owned four GB originals are selling in the $100 to $350 range, but one seller is asking $1,200.
The original iPhone came with data storage material etched into the back of the phone – check the back of your old device to see which one you have.
lennon edition ipod touch
A 16-gigabyte iPod Touch John Lennon Edition with original box and earbuds, courtesy of 2007, fetches a decent chunk of change on eBay.
With starting bids as high as $500 for some older versions of this iPod, many more online buyers are eligible to get their hands on this time-capsule music goodie from one of Apple’s golden ages.
Maybe it could be an easy pay day for the salesperson.
The packaging is branded with deceased Beatles legend John Lennon, who cemented the band as a singer, guitarist, songwriter and visionary alongside bandmates Paul McCartney, 80, Ringo Starr, 82, and the late George Harrison.
While he may rebel about the use of his face for such endorsements, Lennon’s presence makes this music-driven device even more valuable to fans of the band or any other large audience.
While the seller kept everything else in original condition, the original charger isn’t included with the posted device, but they’ll still toss one in.
