The creators of Atomic Heart respond to allegations of data collection for the Russian government

The team responsible for Atomic Heart announced the end of work on the production, but this is not the last challenge the developers have to face in the near future. This time, Mundfish had to react to accusations of collecting customer data that would go to Russian services.

Last week, the AIN.Capital report was published, according to which the Russian website of the Mundfish store contained a note regarding the collection and transfer of data to Russian state authorities, including the tax office and the Federal Security Service (FSB).

According to AIN.Capital journalist on the Russian version of the studio’s website, there was also a message regarding “the Russian mobilization law, according to which soldiers are currently being recruited in Russia to continue the criminal war against Ukraine.” The editors also inform that Atomic Heart is sponsored by Russian investors, which is not the first such accusation against the authors.

Mundfish responded to the reports and sent a statement from the GamesRadar+ editorial staff, in which they deny that they collect any data, and the quoted mentions are “outdated and incorrect”:

Our game and website do NOT collect any information or data. The site’s privacy statement is outdated and wrong, and should have been removed years ago. We have closed the store to reassure our fans of the integrity of our studio and products. We apologize for any confusion about this.”

Games Radar+, however, emphasizes that the studio’s spokesperson has not confirmed or denied that the website has ever downloaded data, has not commented on the allegations regarding the annotations, and has not referred to reports of having an office in Moscow.
