Rumor suggests the iPhone 15 Pro Max may have an even brighter display

A new rumor suggests that Apple may upgrade the display on the high-end iPhone 15 Pro Max this year to make it even brighter. Currently, the iPhone 14 Pro Max can reach 2000 nits of max brightness, but this rumor suggests that the peak brightness could increase to 2500 nits this year

iPhone 15 Pro Max with Bright Display?

Rumor The leaker comes from ShrimpApplePro, which doesn’t have a perfect track record of accuracy for all iPhone 14 models including 6GB of RAM, but a good one. He also revealed that the iPhone 15 Pro models will have a “beautiful” new design that uses curved edges, thinner bezels, and titanium for the casing.

In a post on Twitter today, ShrimpApplePro suggested that Apple may adopt Samsung’s next-generation displays that can reach up to 2500 nits of maximum brightness. However, the report is very vague for now, with ShrimpApplePro saying that this display could “potentially” appear on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Ahead, analyst ross young says 9to5Mac That he hasn’t heard anything specifically about this change yet. The increase in brightness can be achieved in a few other ways without resorting to an entirely new display type. The company may use Multi-Lens Array (MLA), a technology that boosts the brightness output on a smaller display. It can also remove the polarizer of the display by using something called color over encapsulation.

9to5Mac’s Tech

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max both have 1000 nits of maximum brightness for typical usage. When watching HDR content, that brightness can reach up to 1600 nits. In outdoor environment, the display can reach 2000 nits of maximum brightness. The iPhone 13 Pro, for comparison, offered 1000 nits max brightness (Typical) and 1200 nits max brightness (HDR).

If the iPhone 15 Pro Max offers an enhanced peak brightness of 2500 nits, it will almost certainly only apply to outdoor brightness. In normal environment, the brightness is expected to stay at 1000 nits for long duration of battery life and performance.

Ultimately, it remains to be seen whether Apple will be able to match the increase in screen brightness with this year’s iPhone 15 Pro Max. But even if it doesn’t happen this year, it’s something that’s clearly coming soon.

My money is on this 2500-nit display debuting in next year’s “Ultra” model iPhones. After all, one of the most distinguishing features of the Apple Watch Ultra is its great display…
