Destiny 2’s latest expansion dropped its first big secret on Tuesday. After the game’s weekly rest, players search for clues in the European Dead Zone that lead to a new alien quest. I finished it earlier today, and can confirm it’s a certified banger.

spoiler alert: As is the case with all new Destiny 2 secrets, this mission is at its best a fresh experience. Just go to “the Gulch” in the EDZ and start poking around and you’ll eventually get your first clue. But if you don’t mind spoilers and just want help with the mission, please go ahead.

immediately after the first weekly reset illumination Launched, players discover a new mission, news of which spreads quickly on Twitter And destiny subdivision. It’s called //NODE.OVRD.AVALON// and revolves around diving into an unstable Vex network to investigate the source of a strange message: Avalon. Remember Asher Meir, everyone’s favorite raver from io? As teased at the end of the first season of The Splicer, he’s still alive and needs our help.

The new Exotic mission is essentially a season of the Spacer Xpanz mission crossed with the old Pyramid Strike in retrospect Destiny 2 launched earlier. You’ll platform through a Vex network, fight tons of harpies and minotaurs, solve some light puzzles, and eventually take down a strangely corrupted version of Brakion, the boss from the original Pyramid Strike.

Succeed and you’ll receive the craftable Glaive Vexcalibur, which gives allies zero overshield and makes a quiet noise. I’m still feeling my way through how cool the new alien is, but the secret mission to get to it is excellent, especially when played as a three-player fireteam. how to do this.

Go to the Gulch in the EDZ and collect six Vex Cubes

This part is straightforward. Once you land on the small island along the way where the Cabal are stationed to find the first cube. From there you’ll have 30 seconds to find each subsequent one until you’ve caught all six and decoded the coordinates. Once completed, a route will open on your map here:

Go inside and follow the path to the end, where you’ll find the Blue Harpy to start at any time and unlock the quest node on the map.

The mission says recommended strength is 1800, but this will make everyone playing it at least 1790, so you don’t need to grind before attempting this.

If you try to go it alone just know you are in for tough times. Whichever loadout you choose, you’ll want a lot of crowd-control and close-quarters-clearing weapons like shotguns, fusion rifles, or grenade launchers. Most Vex enemy shields are void.

How to enter Vex keys

After starting the mission you’ll encounter a very brief maze-y area that you’ll eventually find your way through to reach the first main encounter. This is where you’ll learn the central mechanics of the mission, which revolves around finding patterns of shapes and destroying Vex shapes that appear in sequence.

Wax nodes will always generate a pyramid, diamond, or cube, and a small chain of red nodes in the surrounding environment will tell you the order to destroy them. If you are playing alone then you have to do all the work. , but if you’re in a group it’s best if one person finds the pattern and enters the code while the other two players take down enemies. Its three rooms after a wave of enemies before moving on to the second phase of the mission.

Refer to Deletion Protocol

After a short platforming section, you’ll end up in another arena full of Vex enemies. This time some purple specks will drop which you can collect and deposit in the central Vex node. Doing so will release the force field and hide you beneath the floor, while the Vex network wipes out everything above.

You’ll have to do this a few times, but it’s not too bad. At one point you’ll fight a Hydra mini-boss. With three players it went down fairly smoothly.

Follow Asher Meir’s call until you reach the boss

After the Delete Protocol section, you’ll have to do some more platforming. The only real challenge here is taking it slow and keeping an eye on the edges that will lead you deeper into the network. Eventually you’ll reach the final battle area where you’ll meet the boss, a giant Hobgoblin in the vein of Brakion.

It begins in the same way as the Pyramidian encounter, but this time each damage phase will be paused in order to enter more Vex codes. While the boss sits on his platform encased in a protective barrier, you must find symbol patterns in the wells on the right or left side of the arena and then enter them into the central Vex node.

If you are single, good luck. But if you’re part of a group, I again recommend putting one person in charge of entering the code while the others clear the room. Fighting produces a lot of wax and things can get out of control very quickly. Once the battle is over it’s time to head back to the helm and collect your prize.

Use Vexcalibur to kill more Vex

After grabbing Vexcalibur, you can unlock its pattern and start farming the rest of the alien quest. You’ll need to use the Glaive to kill a ton of Vex to unlock additional crafting options. Fortunately, the new patrol area Neomuna is perfect for this. If you haven’t been cultivating Terminal Overload activity out there, now is the perfect time.

I am currently there. I’ve never been a fan of gloves, but I already love the look and feel of the Vexcalibur (and the name). We’ll see in the coming days and weeks whether it finds a place in players’ arsenals or is just a cool memento from an old friend. Hopefully this means we’ll be getting to know more about Asher Mir very soon. Meanwhile, //NODE.OVRD.AVALON// is already a Destiny 2 The expansion that continues to grow on me.
