On the occasion of Games Developers Conference 2023 expected in late March, AMD will show the new version of some FidelityFX technologies. Obviously the wait is all for the new version of FidelityFX Super Resolution, the technology that allows the upscaling of images supported by Radeon GPUs for PC and by the consoles of the current generation, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PS5. However, FSR is not the only FidelityFX technology: there are also Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS), Combined Adaptive Compute Ambient Occlusion (CACAO), Variable Rate Shading (VRS), Stochastic Screen Space Reflections (SSSR) and ray-traced shadow Denoiser, all possible subject of novelties and improvements.
At the moment, the novelties that AMD intends to add to FidelityFX are not yet known, although the introduction of Super Resolution 3.0 is expectedas well as new ways to accelerate performance in games with ray tracing enabled, or other challenging effects. As anticipated in a press release, the company will illustrate how to implement the new version of FidelityFX in the graphics engines, as well as the various features of the SDK, showing a preview of the new technologies.
AMD has also released a plug-ins for Unreal Engine, with which it is made available Fidelity FX Super Resolution 2.2 in all games based on Epic’s graphics engine. In addition to making it easier for developers to add FSR 2.2, the plug-in allows you to use a new ghosting reduction option, as well as improve the visual appearance of elements such as animated leaves, usually plagued by graphical glitches and artifacts.
The company has also published a temporary solution for an annoying bug that caused problems for many users who installed Adrenalin drivers on Windows: we talked about it in this article.
