Twitter will limit how many direct messages you can send, unless you pay for Twitter Blue


A new change is coming in the direct messages of Twitter. Everything indicates that the company apply a limit to the amount users can send per dayunless they subscribe to Twitter Blue. And the implementation of this measure could take place in the course of this week.

Although the cap on the number of Twitter direct messages that can be sent per day is a subject that has been rumored for some time, it was only in the last few hours that we were able to learn what would this action look like working. the reputed leaker Alessandro Paluzzi was the one who posted a screenshot with the notice that those who reach the established daily maximum will receive.

“Get verified to send more messages. You have reached the maximum number of direct messages you can send in a day. Subscribe to Twitter Blue to continue sending,” the warning reads. The poster will offer users two options: follow the process to join the paid version of the social network, or rule out the possibility.

Paluzzi mentions that, currently, the limit of direct messages that can be sent daily by Twitter is 500. However, the leaker believes that the company is likely to stipulate a lower number by the time it applies the new measure.

What is still not clear is what the scope of the measure will be. In past days, T(w)itter Daily News published that the social network was working on an option to limit the sending of direct messages to accounts that don’t follow you On twitter. Apparently, only users verified by Twitter Blue could communicate via DM with profiles with which they have no prior link. A measure that would also apply to group chats.

Own Elon Musk responded in a thread on this topic and mentioned that they hope to release this feature in the next few days. According to the owner of the social network, the measure does not aim to attract more Twitter Blue subscribers, but to combat spam and AI-powered bots in direct messages.

“As I’ve said many times, it’s getting harder and harder to distinguish between AI bots. Soon, it will be impossible. The only ‘social networks’ that will survive will be those that require verification,” mentioned the tycoon. In fact, he assured that, since it is a payment verification, the cost of keeping a bot running is multiplied by 10,000.

It remains to be seen whether the limit on the number of Twitter direct messages that can be sent per day, and the inability to communicate with accounts you don’t follow unless you pay for Twitter Blue, are part of the same package of functions.
