Sending videos in HD comes to WhatsApp for Android in its beta

A few weeks ago, WhatsApp experimented with an option so that we can send higher quality photos and now it does the same with the videos. The adjustment is already reaching some users of the beta of WhatsApp for Android.

This new function arrives personified in the form of a new HD button that will appear as an option before sending a video to a chat. When activated, the video is sent with a higher resolution, which also makes it larger.

Sending videos in HD quality

It is an open secret that multimedia shipments in WhatsApp leave something to be desired, despite the fact that the application increased the maximum size of sending documents to up to 2 GB. Photos and videos have other limits, especially on their maximum size and, in the case of videos, their length.

As a result, it is common that the videos that come to us through WhatsApp end up being too pixelated having compressed more than necessary. Soon we will be able to choose if we want this to stay the same or get into the 21st century by sending high-quality videos.

This novelty is basically the same as the one we met a few weeks ago for the photos, but with videos. If we press the HD button, we have the option of choose between standard quality or HD quality when sending a video.

The resulting video is still compressed, but at a higher quality. In the WaBetaInfo screenshot we can see the difference between the two options: resolution of 416 x 880 pixels in standard quality or 608 x 1296 pixels in HD quality. In return, sending in HD occupies double and, therefore, it will also spend more data if we are not using Wi-Fi. Videos sent with this extra quality appear with an HD indicator in the chat.

According to WaBetaInfo, the quality setting appears only when sending videos of considerable size and the feature is still rolling out to users, first in beta. Hopefully it will be available to everyone in the coming weeks or months.
