The Switch is home to a good selection of rhythm games, but one series that never quite made it to a Nintendo system is the Sony-published Petaphone which started life in the PSP. It’s unlikely we’ll ever see that series on the Switch, but it looks like we’ll be getting its spiritual successor soon as the development team has opened up funding for their next project, Ratanon, which is now nearing its console stretch goal. has crossed

Like the team’s previous series, Rattan is a rhythm-based side-scrolling adventure game where you’ll take command of an adorable army and send them against oncoming enemies while keeping the beat down. Each of the Ratanan leaders has different skills, so you’ll need to combine toe-tapping rhythm control with a level of tactical thinking to make the most of each race and sacrifice as few soldiers as possible.

The game comes from Ratata Arts the brains behind the original Patapon game and has passed its Phase III goal to bring the game to the Switch just days after going live on Kickstarter.

For a little more info about the game, check out the following synopsis from Rattata Arts:

Ratan is diving onto the roguelike scene in this combination of rhythm and side-scroller action. Players can go into the groove alone or team up with friends in multiplayer mayhem that’s suitable for up to four players! Engage in massive melee fights with over 100 characters fighting for supremacy. Ride to the beat of Ratan’s catchy, dance-pumping soundtrack as you defeat your enemies in this joyous, heartfelt adventure!

Rhythm Command and Kobun Order
Feel the beat and use rhythm commands in time with the music to set your kobun in the direction you want them to move. Ratan can be moved freely, so use your best judgment to decide where is best to command, where to stand when on the offensive, and when to retreat. A sense of rhythm and strategy is key to surviving the long adventure while losing as few Kobuns as possible!

inflammatory system
Keep to the beat and your party will enter Fever Mode, a feature no good rhythm game can do without! Feel the vibes change as the background music dynamically changes and your Kobun busts out a flurry of frantic dance moves that really get your heart pumping! And if everyone’s party goes into fever mode at the same time, you’ll literally bring down the house!

Rattan still has 30 days left on its Kickstarter campaign and continues to meet its next phase goal which will add an additional minigame to the mix by the minute. Be sure to check out the official Kickstarter page to see the different prizes for donations.

Of course, we don’t have a release date for it yet, but we’re certainly excited to learn more.

What do you think of Ratan so far? Are you excited to see it come to Switch? Tell us in the comments.
