Despite the criticisms, NFTs are an industry benchmark

Anyone who is trying to approach the NFT market, especially in the world of video games, is overwhelmed by criticism. In the recent past it has happened to everyone, from Team17 to Ubisoft, also passing through Konami. Despite the pressure of the players, who would like a video game industry free from non-fungible tokens, in reality the realities do not want to change the objective, so much so that only in these first months of 2022 an unimaginable amount of money has been invested in this sector.

As reported by The Gamer, January to April 2022 the video game industry has invested approximately $ 1.2 billion in NFTs. This data obviously does not refer only to companies that produce and launch triple A on the market such as Ubisoft or Konami, but also to many other projects related exclusively to Web 3.0 and small-scale games focused exclusively on blockchain and non-fungible tokens.

However, these data are interesting and demonstrate, once again, how giving up trends is not seen as an option. Of course, there have already been reverse gears (and will continue to be), but they seem more like only momentary stops. On the other hand, if non-fungible tokens later become the norm, it can really be counterproductive for a company not to get on the train at the right time. The same, identical situation already occurred in the past, when DLCs, service games and microtransactions were introduced on the market.

Over the next few years, the possibility that even large companies will invest and decide to hold on to NFTs is therefore very high. It will only be necessary to discover its shape: whether non-fungible tokens will really be used as an alternative to microtransactions or for other projects is still an unknown. But now we are curious to know your opinion on the matter: are you in favor of introducing tokens in video games or not? Please let us know by leaving a comment on the news.
