It’s been a week since we dropped Android 14 beta 3 and the update to beta 3.1 is here to take care of some bug fixes. Google is rolling out the update immediately, so Pixel phone owners, get it on.
The Android 14 beta 3.1 update only includes two notable bug fixes and is labeled as “minor.” Google is fixing fingerprint unlock bugs and platform compatibility issues related to SDK mapping. This is the bug that was causing you to see regular app crashes.
The update is already available in both OTA and factory image form. If you have read this the over-the-air version should be up soon.
Release date: June 14, 2023
Build: UPB3.230519.014
Emulator Support: x86 (64-bit), ARM (v8-a)
Security Patch Level: June 2023
Google Play Services: 23.18.15
If you’ve been testing out the new software I’m guessing most of you have downloaded the Android 14 beta on your Pixel phones at this point. So if you already have it, the update should reach the Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 7a through Pixel 4a 5G shortly. For those who aren’t sure how to get this latest 3.1 update, let’s talk about that.
Android 14 beta 3.1 is available for:
the easiest solution: If you have one of those devices, the easiest way to get Android 14 beta 3.1 on the device is to sign-up for the Android Beta program (here). You’ll simply click the “Opt In” button on that page to join and then sit back and wait for Google to release the Android 14 over-the-air update.
Once enrolled, you’ll go to Settings > System > Advanced > System Updates to check for it. Google may not push it immediately and instead release it gradually throughout the day. Either way, feel free to check in there after enrolling in the program to let Google know you want it.
manual method:Want to update faster or flash factory image or OTA file via ADB to feel more technical, important and smart? That’s still an option! I would go the OTA route, but factory images are also available. You will find Android 14 beta 3.1 factory images and OTA files here. For instructions on how to flash the factory image, go here. For instructions on how to flash the OTA .zip file, visit here.
Already on Android 14 beta build: If you’re already on an Android 14 beta build, Google says you’ll receive the beta 3.1 update over-the-air. Of course, you can also flash the factory image or OTA file manually, as the over-the-air process often takes quite some time to process.
