Dometic turns car into camper via stackable, trunk-size base camp kit

The name “dometic” graces our pages regularly, usually in the form of a third-party supplier of equipment and fixtures that appear in the myriad RV and camper builds we cover. With its all-new Go line, Domatic has leapt outside of RVs and launched standalone equipment and accessories that are designed to fit snugly in a car trunk and set up in a comfortable open-air base camp. Huh. Along with an innovative unattractive water faucet, the newly launched Go family includes rough-hewn camp furniture and rugged cargo boxes built to withstand the elements.

Dometic has completely broken out over the years, charging into new markets, acquiring well-known name brands like Front Runner Outfitters and Igloo Coolers, and continuing to grow its lineup of mobile living and outdoor equipment. Is. Launched last week in the US and Australia, the Go becomes its latest addition to the lineup.

Dometic’s new Go folding camping chair and HC50 storage box comes with some of its old portable camping gear, including the CFX fridge on the far right.

While new to the name, the Go family certainly isn’t the first time Domestic has thought outside the RV box. The company has been impressing the overland and car camping crowds for years with the CFX series of portable, cooler-style fridges/freezers, offering a versatile electric cooler solution that works in full blown RVs but also in trucks, SUV yachts and others. Works in vehicles too. With the available PLB lithium battery pack, CFX fridges also make traveling by vehicle with ease and serving cold meals on an open forest or desert floor.

With the new Go Hydration water jug and faucet (which could really use a more creative name), Domatic has added part two of a deconstructed RV kitchen for a vehicle tailgate or open-air camp. The rugged 11-L LDPE water canister functions on its own to carry drinking water and turns into a handy washing system when paired with a battery-powered faucet that attaches to or with the canister spout Adheres to a pod or other magnetic surface.

The Go Hydration Combo makes it a handy tool for washing hands, brushing teeth, and neatly dispensing drinking and cooking water without tipping an 11-L jug. Slide a collapsible basin under the faucet, and it becomes an ultra-portable off-grid sink for soaking and washing dishes. The jug sells for US$70, the tap for $100.

We’re a little surprised that Dometic hasn’t completed an RV-style kitchen trio (stove/sink/fridge) with a portable Go stove for the US market, especially considering that the Australian market already has some good ones. There are options. However, it brings a meal-preparation and eating surface with the new height-adjustable Bamboo Go Compact Camp Table, complemented by a folding compact camp chair and compact camp bench. The folding table costs $200, the chair costs $150, and the bench costs $100.

No base camp is complete without a plethora of miscellaneous gear, tools, accessories, and odds and ends. The Dometic looks to keep all these items neatly and completely protected from breakage with the stackable 50-L Go Pac H50 Hard Storage Box. Made from a combination of aluminum and high-impact-resistant polymer, the Latched Box provides sturdy, secure water- and dust-resistant storage for camping and travel gear.

The H50 stores neatly in the trunk, stacks with other H50s, secures via integrated tie-down points and carries easily via integrated handles. At $150, Domatic’s cargo box is priced around mid-market between top-end solutions from brands like Pelican and Zerges and lower-priced offerings from its own Front Runner brand and competitors like Plano or Rubbermaid.

Those looking to really micro-tune their outfit can add the Go Pac 10 and 20 soft-sided storage cases. A single PAC20 and two PAC10s fit neatly together inside the PAC H50 hard case, further organizing and protecting gear. Of course, soft-sided pacs can also be used on their own, and the available insulated inserts turn them into soft coolers. 10 cost $60, and 20 cost $100, while the corresponding insulated inserts are $40 and $50.

Dometic began rolling out new Go products last week, but some of the above items haven’t launched yet. The company will continue the rollout through May, and you can get a closer look at the available and upcoming Go products at dometic.com/go.
