All mobile manufacturers have it clear: the rival to beat in the folding sector is Samsung. The Korean brand is responsible for the return of this phone model to the market thanks to its Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3, which were a resounding success last year.
Well, the Chinese giant is willing to compete against Samsung and for this they have presented the Huawei Mate Xs 2. However, as will be seen in the technical sheet presented below, this new foldable falls short on a couple of essential features.

A more compact model than its first folding with a design that falls in love
Compared to the first Huawei Mate Xs, this new folding phone from the Chinese manufacturer is much more compact. For starters, it has a smaller width and length (156.5 and 139 millimeters, respectively). Also, it is lighter weighing only 257 gramsalmost 40 grams less than the previous version.
And in its design, Huawei opts for the textured finish that we have already seen in other high-end 2022 models. This is how we find a three-dimensional microfiber finish with elegant colors. And the screen? So repeat the OLED panelthis time 7.8 inches when open, and 6.5 inches when closed.
The screen of the Huawei Mate Xs 2 offers a refresh rate up to 120 Hz and 240Hz touch sampling to deliver an immersive viewing experience. And, when it is closed, we find the most distinctive feature of this terminal: its rectangular bar next to the screen which houses the main camera sensors.
Triple camera that comes with all the quality of the king of mobile photography
Huawei has been leading mobile photography for years. The Mate 40 Pro led the camera ranking for two consecutive years from DxOMark. And although this year the mobile that occupies this position of honor does not bear the name of the Chinese manufacturer, it does belong to one of its brands: the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate. Well, it was to be expected that the camera of this new foldable would come with the Huawei quality seal and boy, did it.
The Huawei Mate Xs 2 comes with a main camera made up of 3 sensors, the main one being 50 megapixels with a focal aperture of 1.8. The second is a 13 megapixel ultra wide angle sensor with a focal aperture of 2.2 and 120° field of view. As a third, it has an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with a focal aperture of 2.4, 3x optical and 30x digital zoom.
But… What is special about the camera of Huawei mobiles? Well, it is the own software that it develops. Huawei has incorporated its best image processing technology into this foldable: XD Optics technology for clear reproduction of details and XDFusion Pro to simulate truer colors. And how selfie camera? A 10.7 megapixel ultra wide angle sensor.
In performance and connectivity it falls short: without the latest from Qualcomm, without 5G and without Google
Huawei has surprised us with what it has put under the hood of the Huawei Mate Xs 2. As a processor it has the Snapdragon 888 with Adreno 660 graphics. And, although this is a fairly powerful processor, wonder it doesn’t come with the latest from Qualcommthe Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, taking into account that it is a premium range mobile from 2022.
Another thing that we did not like about the Huawei Mate Xs 2? Well, to be a folding of more than 1000 euros, it is surprising that does not have compatibility for 5G networks. In addition, it comes with the HarmonyOS 2.1 operating system, so if you are a user of Google services, you should know that you will not find them on this mobile.
Finally, it is important to mention that it comes with a 4500mAh batteryexcept in its collector version that brings 4880 mAh, with a 66W fast chargeso it is a folding with more than guaranteed autonomy.
Huawei Mate Xs 2 price and availability
The new Huawei Mate Xs 2 has been presented in China and will go on sale in the Asian country on May 17. For now, the manufacturer has not given information about its availability in the global market. It will be available in three colors (sleek black, beige, and frost purple) and in a collector’s version with increased storage and RAM. Its price? The following:
