Focusing on Windows 11, Microsoft continues to release updates for Windows 10 regularly. Newly launched Windows 10 KB5011831fixes a fatal bug that caused the operating system to crash with a black screen.
The Windows 10 patch was made available via Windows Update as usual. Microsoft has also made the offline installation files of Windows 10 KB5011831 available for download via the Update Catalog. Let us remind you again that optional updates are reliable and tested by the technology giant. Almost all the changes we see now will be sent to everyone with next month’s Tuesday update.
In this context, KB5011831 will not be installed on your system unless you manually download it from Windows Update. So you can skip this optional update if you don’t need it.
What Has Changed With Windows 10 KB5011831 (Build 19044.1682)?
There are no new features introduced in the mass update, but we do see that some major issues have been resolved. For example, the company made improvements to the Secure Boot feature of Windows. This patch also fixes another major bug that caused delays of up to 40 minutes during startup. As we mentioned at the beginning, a critical error that causes the operating system to crash when logging in or out is resolved.

- The Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) registration timeout for hybrid Azure AD joined Auto Piot scenarios has changed from 60 minutes to 90 minutes.
- Resolved an issue where a remote desktop session was closed or the connection became unresponsive while waiting for the accessibility shortcut handler (sethc.exe).
- Resolved an issue where certain Point of Sale terminals did not experience occasional OS startup delays of up to 40 minutes on reboot.
- Fixed an issue that incorrectly returned Execution Policy settings from the registry.
- Addressed issue that causes Internet Explorer to stop working when you copy and paste text using an Input Method Editor (IME).
- Fixed a major bug that caused black screen issues when some users log in or out.
- Fixed an issue that caused Kerberos authentication to fail: “0xc0030009 (RPC_NT_NULL_REF_POINTER)” error message. This issue occurred when a client machine tried to use Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) to connect to another machine with Remote Credential Protection enabled.
- Resolved a bug that could cause Windows to stop working when you apply a Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC) policy that does not require a reboot.

- Fixed a bug that could cause it to lose focus after renaming a Microsoft OneDrive file and pressing Enter.
- Fixed not being able to pass the Shift KeyUp event to an application when using the Korean IME.
- Fixed an issue that could occur when you use Netdom.exe or the Active Directory Domains and Trusts snap-in to list or change name suffixes redirection: Error message: “There are insufficient system resources to complete the requested service.”
- Fixed issue that displayed incorrect IME mode indicator when Font Mitigationa policy was enabled.
- Addressed issue that causes the primary domain controller (PDC) of the root domain to generate warning and error events in the System log.
- Addresses an issue that affects Server Message Block (SMB) multi-channel connectivity and may generate a 13A or C2 error.
- Fixed an issue when you mapped a network drive to a Server Message Block version 1 (SMBv1) share. With the issue, users were unable to access that network drive after restarting the operating system.
- Resolved an issue that caused a virtual computer object (VCO) password settings error on a distributed network name resource.
- Fixed an issue where the Client-Side Caching (CSC) flushing method was unable to delete a created resource, damaging the pool.
- Fixed an issue that could cause the server to crash because the non-paged pool grows and uses all memory. After rebooting, the same issue occurred again when you tried to fix the problem.
- Reduced the load that occurs in high input/output operations per second (IOPS) scenarios when multiple threads are working on a single file.
