New Content You Google Translate Widget is Coming to Android

If you’ve been using Google Translate often, you’ll be happy to know that a new, content you widget has just arrived. This widget definitely follows the content you designed.

This is a huge improvement compared to what we have before. Until now, we could only work with a 11 home screen shortcut, which allowed you to create and launch a specific language pair.

The new Google Translate widget is quite functional, and it looks modern

This widget is richer, and a lot more functional, not to mention that it looks better. The widget has two rows, as you can see in the image below. If this sounds familiar, there’s a reason for it. Google Maps is offering a similar style with the widget.

You’ll notice that there are four shortcuts in that second line. Those shortcuts allow you to use voice, conversation, transliteration, or camera modes, respectively. If you tap on the field to enter text (the first line), an app will launch.

When it comes to the design, the widget is now in line with the Google Translate app. The Google Translate app was redesigned last year, and this widget certainly follows in the same footsteps.

It’s not available yet, at least not for everyone

One thing to note is that this widget is not available to everyone, at least not at the moment. Google Translate v6.34 doesn’t bring this to the table. Google could flip the switch and release a server-side one without any updates. On the other hand, it is also possible that one of the upcoming updates will do the same.

How do we know what it will look like if it hasn’t rolled out yet? Well, Google tweeted The image above, showing us what it would look like. It is expected to land really soon.

Google should offer such redesigns for some of the other apps on its roster. The company hasn’t been particularly quick with it lately. Google adapted some apps, but there’s still work to be done. It would be nice to see such widget redesigns across the board as well.
