Download Skyline, the new Nintendo Switch emulator for Android

It seems incredible, but since 2019 we have nintendo switch emulators for android. That was the year MonoNX appeared, although unfortunately it remained as a conceptual project instead of a functional one. A few years ago a Nintendo Switch emulator also came out that does work on Android, but it required a specific gamepad to be used, so it didn’t come to anything either.

Luckily, an emulator of the latest big N console has just been released that we can all try on Android. It is about Skyline that, despite the fact that it has been in development for just over 1 year (it still is), has managed to emulate Switch games on Android with decent performance. Its secret is that it is specifically developed for Android, so it takes full advantage of all the hardware and software of this system.

This is Skyline: the most promising Nintendo Switch emulator for Android

Skyline is so far the only Switch emulator that actually works on Android and anyone can check it out. It has been created using resources from the Ryujinx emulator for PC due to the high level of precision in the emulation that it offers. Also, Skyline uses the shader compiler from Yuzu (another Switch emulator for PC), but adapted to Android devices with ARMv8 architecture.

As you can see from the screenshots, the emulator app has tons of features and functions. It allows you to change the theme, set performance, change how logs are saved, set a username, set a language, and much more. And if that was not enough, supports multiple controllers so you can play local multiplayer with your friends.

At the moment, the developers are focused on emulating three games perfectly: Sonic Mania, Celeste and Super Mario Odyssey. The first two are already running at a decent FPS rate, but the Mario title is still unplayable, though it does run.

How to download Nintendo Switch Skyline emulator for Android?

To download the latest Skyline APK, you must join the development team Discord. And not only that. You’ll also need to create a GitHub account (if you don’t have one) and type “.rl ftx1 in the bot’s command channel to get a download link for the latest APK.

Do you know how to compile applications? You can then build the emulator app yourself from the Skyline source code on GitHub (it’s an open source project, so no problem) by following the build instructions from the team.

If you are not a developer, follow these steps to download the Skyline APK in the simplest way:

  • Click this link from the Skyline Actions folder on GitHub.
  • On that page, tap the latest available update (You will see several with the symbol next to them).
  • Then press the option app-release.apk (You can only press it if you are logged into GitHub).
  • Unzip the downloaded ZIP file and then install the APK (if it fails, remove the APK from the emulator you installed earlier).

So, you will have installed Skyline emulator on your Android. This is not the most recommended way to download it, because this way you will install an unstable version. Whenever possible, download it from the Skyline Discord or build a stable version yourself.

By the way, if you are going to use this emulator, it is important that you have the keys of your Switch games. They can be obtained by dumping your keys with Lockpick RCM on your Switch console.
