The other day we brought you the news that Sony had finally released the VRR update for its PS5. And of course here, at Crast.net, today we bring you a configuration tutorial for the LG OLED CX and C1, although it will probably also be very similar for an LG OLED C9.
Before we start diving into the configuration, we would first recommend that you check that you have HDMI 2.1 cables, essential to enjoy the maximum resolution, 120 Hz frequency and of course the VRR. Also, you must remember that if you have a sound bar or AVR that does not have HDMI 2.1, you will have to connect the console directly to the television, otherwise it will not work correctly. If you do not have cables of this type, We leave you here some certificates at a very good price directly from Amazon:

How to enjoy VRR for PS5 on your LG OLED C1 and CX

- To disable Power Saving, we will go to Support -> OLED Care -> Device Auto Care -> Power Saving -> Off.
- To deactivate the AI options we will go to General -> AI Service and we will deactivate all the options that we find.
- To rename the HDMI input to PC mode, we will go to Home (remote control home key) -> Home Panel -> (we will click on the 3 points on the top right) -> Edit -> Edit Entries and we’ll get to the icon (not in the name) of the HDMI input where the PS5 is connected and we will indicate that it is a PC (IMPORTANT: It is recommended NOT to activate PC Mode if you are going to use the console as a movie player (discs or apps), if you only use it to play games then YES it is recommended to activate it).
- To verify the UHD Deep Color we will go to General -> Devices -> HDMI Settings -> HDMI Deep Color -> 4K.
To finish, we will go to the HDMI where the PS5 is located and we will put the television image mode on Game Optimizerwhere we will also configure other additional options if we press the configuration button on the remote control.
In this new panel, we will make sure to leave the following options as indicated here:
- Black stabilizer: 10
- White stabilizer: 10
- OLED Motionpro: locked
- Reduce blue light: disabled
- Avoid input lag: enhancer
- Game Dashboard: Switched on
- AI Game Sound: Switched on
- VRR and G-Sync: Switched on
- AMD FreeSync Premium: Switched on
- Adjust dark areas: 0
Ready, we already have our games in SDR 100% configured without problem. Now we have the HDR part. For it on the PS5 to Settings -> Display and Video -> HDR and we will set it to On if it is Compatible, you will see that the HDR mode is automatically put on us. Before you start with this, make sure that the steps in the previous section on energy saving and others are applied. If so, we will leave the screen of PS5 to Settings -> Display and Video and we will leave it exactly like this:
- Resolution: Automatic
- 4K Video Transfer Rate: Automatic
- RRV: Automatic
- Apply to unsupported games: Activated
- HDR: Enabled if supported
- Deep color output: Automatic
- RGB range: Automatic (Recommended)
- Activate 120 Hz output: Automatic
As you can see, we have to be careful and have the VRR option in Automatic Y Apply to Unsupported Games to On:

Updated list of games compatible with VRR

As they explain in the PlayStation official blogthe updated list as of May 2022 of compatible video games is as follows:
- Astro’s Playroom
- Call of Duty: Vanguard
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- deathloop
- destiny 2
- Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
- DIRT 5
- godfall
- Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Resident Evil Village
- Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
- Tribes of Midgard
That if, as you may have seen, there are many games that can be applied VRR if they are fully compatible, to do this remember to activate the option on the PS5, which you will find within Settings -> Display and Video -> VRR Apply to unsupported games: Activated. With this option some games (not all, far from it) will be able to make the VRR work… although it seems that not completely, since cThey will have some important functionalities such as the LFC, that we explain in our article dedicated to the VRR.
Finally, remember that to enjoy the wider range of frames per second that the VRR supports on the PS5 (from 48 to 120 Hz), you will also have to activate the 120 Hz mode. If the game is compatible, you will find it available within the settings of the game itself, as for example you can see in our video of Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
