Movistar announces how much the new Smart WiFi 6 router will cost and which customers will be able to hire it

Yesterday was the day we saw how the new Movistar router looks. Smart WiFi 6, which is the name of the creature, already has a shape and we know some of its features. With all these data we needed to know the price and which clients will be able to get the… something we already know.

The operator itself, through an official document, informs and makes clear all these aspects and what will it take, if you are a Movistar customerso you can count on the new WiFi 6 router.

Availability of Smart WiFi 6 and price

And without further ado, let’s get down to business. The Smart WiFi 6 router will initially begin to roll out between customers who already have a fiber optic broadband service with Movistar supported by ONT equipment (Optic Node Terminal, Optical Node Terminal) and router. It is the model that is called to occupy the space of the router that has been used until now, the well-known HGU.

Movistar launches a new router and these are the improvements that you will find when they change the HGU model that you have now

If you want to get Smart Wifi 6, you will have to pay an activation fee of 70 euros (VAT included)a cost that will have to be add another 50 euros (VAT included)if the client requests the installation of self-installable equipment.

Advantages and improvements

Mesh

As with other operators that have opted for this system (Digi, Orange…) the arrival of WiFi 6 connectivity to the router entails a series of advantages for all devices connected at home and especially those that are compatible with the new standard.

With the Smart WiFi 6 and in front of the HGU that we already know, we are going to find a improvement in connection speed, better network traffic management now more efficient and greater coverage distance if we have devices compatible with this type of network.

The new Movistar router releases an improvement called Band Sterring. A function that allows the router to create a single WiFi network throughout the house regardless of whether it is 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. The router will be in charge of choosing the right one for each device.

This model incorporates up to 9 antennas, also integrated, like the HGU. Thanks to this improvement you can achieve, according to the operator, up to 25% more range and a speed 3.5 times higher. In this sense, note that Allows you to create mesh networks so that it is easier to expand coverage through a single WiFi network with the same name and password.

It also improves in aspects such as security, by having WPA3, which means taking the leap in encryption, which switch from using a 128-bit key to a 192-bit key.
