Google Nest devices are already compatible with Alexa through a new skill: this is all we can do

Google offers a good range of smart home products under the Nest label. Until now, they could be controlled through the Google Assistant, being able to perform multiple functions and have everything at our fingertips. For a while they also offered Alexa compatibility, but now its use has expanded to new security cameras and smart doorbells from Nest.

Through an entry on the official Google blog, they have warned about the arrival of a new Alexa Skill that brings together all the functions and voice commands of Alexa compatible with Google Nest products. In this way, users who have this type of device will have more control options through this intelligent voice assistant.

How to activate the Google Nest Skill in Alexa

The skill is even compatible with the latest 2021 models of Nest security cameras and smart doorbells. This means that, if we have an Amazon Echo Show device, through the Skill we will have the option to see what happens from our Google Nest cameras, as well as from a Fire TV device or tablet. The Android Police media has collected all the additional functions that can be performed depending on the device that we have in a table that we leave below.

The compatibility is quite wide, but as we can see in the table, Google is promoting these functions especially in its most current models. The skill also offers the possibility to control our old Nest cameras or even Google thermostats.

From Google they have indicated a series of steps to be able to use this Skill with our Nest device. To do this, first we must make sure that we have migrated our Nest account to a Google accountin case we already had a device prior to the acquisition of Google.

After that, we must go to the Google Home application and on our Nest device enable Amazon among the ‘partner connections’. This option is available in the configuration menu of our profile within Home. Once the permissions are activated, we will only have to use this Skill on any speaker with integrated Alexa or mobile device.
