OnePlus 10 Pro, Oppo Find X5 Pro, and Realme GT 2 Pro are the first non-Pixel devices to receive Android 13 beta 1.

Average Joe may have to wait, as these are aimed at early build developers

Pixel users have enjoyed Android 13 since the first developer preview came out in February. Meanwhile, owners of other devices have been left to watch from the sidelines, missing out on all the goodies of the new operating system so far. With Android 13 officially in the beta stage of development, manufacturers like Oppo, OnePlus and Realme – and many more – are now calling on their customers to enroll their flagship devices in the respective developer preview events.

Oppo announced that its flagship Find X5 Pro will get its first ColorOS developer preview based on Android 13 beta 1. As with most early-stage in-development software, this build is for developers to prepare their apps for the upcoming OS. If you’re an average user or use Find X5 Pro as your daily driver, you might want to wait until the company releases the first public version of the new ColorOS. On the other hand, if you are an advanced user and want to give the software a try, Oppo has simplified things by providing details of the installation process on a help page. Keep in mind that the update will wipe out your phone’s storage (so back up your data first) and there are some camera and connectivity bugs in the software.

OnePlus also announced a similar developer preview program for the OnePlus 10 Pro based on Android 13 beta 1. Like Oppo, it wipes your data, has known issues, and is recommended for developers and other advanced users. Here’s a guide to trying out new software if you feel like it.

For India and Southeast Asia, Realme introduced its own schedule for the GT2 Pro, issuing similar warnings to Oppo and OnePlus. If you want to give it a try you can check the installation guidelines.

As part of its announcements today at Google I/O 2022, the company confirmed the availability of Android 13 beta release for OnePlus, Oppo and Realme devices. In addition, it announced that beta releases for select Asus, Lenovo, Nokia, Sharp, Tecno, Vivo, Mi and ZTE handsets will begin today. Companies are already starting to share details about which phones you’ll need to participate, such as Nokia, which supports Android 13 on its X20. Check out our guide on how to install Android 13 beta for all the details you need to get started.

Android 13 refines many of the design changes Google introduced with Android 12, improves privacy and security, and adds various nifty features. We’re glad to see that beta is now expanding beyond Google’s realm and it’s only a matter of time before big names like Samsung jump on the update train.
