Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 renders offer up our best look yet at this next-gen foldable

It closely resembles its predecessor, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

The rise of the foldable screen has in a way allowed the rebirth of the long forgotten flip phone. The trend was started by Motorola with its throwback-themed Razer foldable phone, and Samsung later joined the party with the Galaxy Z Flip and its follow-up Z Flip3. The latter was a major upgrade from its predecessor in both specifications, design, and most important, price, so the stakes are high for the Z Flip4 arriving later this year. If the new leaks are anything to go by, though, it could be a slightly sluggish release – at least in terms of design.

The renders created by renowned leaker OnLeaks and published by 91mobiles claim to depict the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip4. But at first glance, you might mistake it for its predecessor, the Z Flip3. Or at another glance. And maybe even on the third.

The thing is, the design feels 99% identical it has the same top rear camera/secondary display module in glossy black glass, similar rounded corners, and from the looks of it, the same thickness as well. This appears to be pretty much the same as the design difference between the Galaxy S21/S21+ and S22/S22+ – the edges feel the same small A little flatter than the previous model, but that’s about it.

It looks like with the Galaxy Z Flip 4, Samsung will instead focus on the internals rather than the external improvements. The rear camera is still a dual setup, but it could be upgraded with a 50MP sensor instead of the 12MP one in the Z Flip3. Likewise, we’re definitely getting a bump from the latest Snapdragon processors, be it the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or its long-rumoured “Plus” version.

We also recently got our first look at the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the Flip 4’s brother, and its bigger rival, the next Motorola Razr. And with an announcement likely a few months away, it probably won’t be much until we see more about these phones.
