OnePlus Ace Racing Edition passes by Geekbench with Dimensity 8100 and 12GB RAM

OnePlus launched OnePlus Ace back last month. The device arrived as a rebranded Realme GT Neo 3 featuring the exact same specifications but with a few tweaks. The device had a new Dimension 8100-MAX offshoot with minor changes to the display and an entirely new design. This handset was also launched in India as OnePlus 10R. Now, weeks after the launch, OnePlus is preparing the terrain for a new variant called the OnePlus Ace Racing Edition. According to some reports, despite the name suggesting something faster, it will be a more affordable variant. It will still be faster than most of the mid-range devices in the market with the Dimension 8100.

OnePlus Ace Racing Edition – an affordable flagship

OnePlus Ace Raging Edition will launch on May 17. Ahead of the release, the device has gone through the Geekbench benchmark database. The listing confirms that the device will pack MediaTek Dimensity 8100 SoC. Note that this is the vanilla version, however, so there is no way to confirm it right now. The chipset has a 5nm architecture with four ARM Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.85GHz and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores. There is Mali-G610 MC6 GPU for gaming and graphical tasks. On Geekbench 5, the device has appeared with model number PGZ110. It scores 868 in the single-core department and 3,505 in the multi-core tasks. This might not be a big surprise, but the device runs Android 12, which means OxygenOS 12 on top.

OnePlus has also revealed some renders confirming the device of the phone. The official listing on the OnePlus China website confirms that the upcoming Ace smartphone will pack blue and gray colourways. It will also bring the usual triple-camera setup. There will be a 64MP main camera shooter on the way. We expect the other sensors to be an 8MP ultrawide snapper and a 2MP shooter for macro or depth sensing.

If performance is flagship-level with the Dimensity 8100, how can OnePlus make this device affordable? The answer is in the details. Apparently, the phone will ship with an LCD screen, unlike its OLED-packed sibling. Anyway, this screen will still come with Full HD+ resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. The phone will also come with a battery of at least 4,500 mAh. Fast-charging will be between 65W and 80W. We expect more details to emerge in the coming days as the launch draws closer.

The device can be either a huge success or a pointless failure. It all depends on the price. It is worth noting that the phone is coming with a textured gray variant that looks like the old OnePlus phone with sandstone finish.
