HP’s One Monitor Has a Center Stage Clone



HP’s upcoming 23.8-inch Z24m monitor is geared towards creative professionals and comes with a webcam that tracks your movement to keep you in the frame during video calls, much like Apple’s in its studio display and some iPads. Like Center Stage Feature (via) Ars Technica) The Z24m’s 5MP reclinable webcam sits on top of the monitor, which Ars Technica Indicates, it’s going to focus its attention on you, even if other people are in the background of the shot.

And while you can’t remove the webcam from the monitor, you can push it down to hide it from view. The Z24m also features dual noise-canceling microphones and dual speakers that can eliminate the need to use external headphones and a microphone. As for the display itself, the Z24m packs an IPS panel with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, a fairly fast 90Hz refresh rate, 5ms response time, as well as support for HDR.

The monitor also supports HP’s Auto Lock and Wake functionality. This feature uses a built-in proximity sensor not a webcam to detect when you’re in front of a screen. If you enable this feature, the monitor should automatically lock when you leave and turn itself back on when you return.



It’s not clear how HP’s webcam tracking feature compares center stage to Apple’s, which uses machine learning technology to help keep you (and anyone else in the frame with you) in the center of the screen. Is. The 27-inch studio display comes with the iPhone 11’s A13 Bionic chip, which helps the 12MP webcam work center stage among other features. However, there are some issues with the webcam’s image quality – Apple has pushed a software update to address this, but it still hasn’t been fully fixed.

The Z24m is slated for release in July, and there is no pricing information available yet. HP is also releasing the Z24q this month for $347, a monitor with very similar specs but no video conferencing features. If this is any indication of the Z24m’s price, it will likely sit well below the $1,599 price tag of the Studio Display, which potentially exists as a more affordable option.
