LG OLED EVO

One of the Smart TVs of 2022 is undoubtedly the spectacular LG OLED C2, which this year includes the new 42-inch diagonal and the 97, for generous rooms. This model is part of a starting price in Europe of 1650 euros and that it can serve as a desktop monitor. Although there is a problem that is getting bigger and bigger in internet communities: Not all models of the LG OLED C2 have an EVO panel.

Following the arrival of the 42 and 48-inch model to various internet experts, it was learned that this model does not have an EVO panel, at least in 42 inches. But the debate is served as the box, instruction manual and other nomenclatures clearly speak of a panel EVO, although however the company insists that there are no such panels.

As you can see in the image above, the box and other material that accompanies it clearly speaks of EVO. However, thanks to Vincent Teoh among other famous gauges, when checking the color distribution of the panel, they realized that something did not fit. That was not an EVO panel, but a normal one (WBC).

With all the fuss caused on the Internet, in a first news LG responded to the Korean media stating that “eIt is true that WBC and WBE are mixed in the 42-inch OLED TV EVO, and that is an unavoidable situation depending on the supply situation of LG Display panels. WBE panels will be applied after 2T.» Or what is the same: when you buy an LG OLED C2 television, you can get one with an EVO panel (WBE) or one with a traditional panel (WBC) that is inferior in performance, despite paying exactly the same.

The community did not accept that answer as valid, so shortly after the Korean brand had to go out again to give a more convincing explanation to the international media, which was… denying that EVO panels existed:

There are no “EVO” panels. They are simply a collection of enhancements and electronics from LG Electronics to improve picture quality. In essence, EVO is the combination of the new fifth generation Alpha 9 chipset with our OLED panels. The LG OLED C2 has the same longevity and image quality as the larger inch models.

According to the brand…there are no EVO panels. However, if we go to his page official website of the LG OLED C2 model but 42 inches we can clearly see how it is indicated that the panel type it’s OLED EVO. No TV model, yes no panel type:

What’s more, accessing the TV menu we can clearly see that there are two types of panels: WBE (EVO) and WBC (normal); In addition, the brand itself with its first response already confirmed that there were two types of panels and that the 42-inch model would begin to incorporate it in the second quarter of the year. So… does it exist or does it not exist? according to LG itself, yes but no.

Advantages of the EVO panel (WBE) compared to traditional OLEDs (WBC). And OLED.EX?

How to know if your LG C1 has an EVO panel without opening it

Some time ago we made an article for you. identify if an LG TV has an EVO panelbut before explaining the process, let’s review the main advantages offered by this technology compared to a WBC panel.

  • A longer lifespan of the OLED panel.
  • Increases protection against possible burns or retention.
  • The energy consumption is more moderate despite generating the same level of brightness, it can even offer more brightness by increasing the energy consumption to the levels of a traditional OLED panel.
  • It supports temperature better, so the ABL relaxes more, achieving higher brightness levels at full screen.

On the other hand, LG Display has recently indicated again that the OLED.EX panel also does not existit is simply one more twist to your Alpha 9 processor + EVO (WBE) panel + heatsink, thus managing to further increase the brightness and relax the ABL. But the panel is the same: EVO (WBE).

How to know if my 42-inch LG OLED C2 TV has an EVO panel?

LG OLED-C2There are three ways to know if your TV is EVO or not, but it seems that LG has changed the nomenclature of the box, so in principle the first system can no longer be used. In any case, we will briefly explain it to you since in the future, once we know the new nomenclatures, we will update this article with the new procedure.

On the cardboard box of a 55-inch LG OLED C1 it might say “OLED55C14LB.DEUPJPL”. The letter we are interested in identifying is the fourth letter after the periodthat is, the first after DEU. If the first letter is a P or a W you have an EVO panelif not, it is a traditional OLED panel.

Another good option to consider is using a service remote with an IN-Start key, available from Amazon. With it, you can access the service menu of your LG OLED C2 and, in section number 12 (it could vary but it will be called OLED), on the right you can see how it appears if the panel is WBE (EVO) or WBC (normal) .

As a last option, you can also check if your 42-inch LG OLED C2 uses an EVO panel opening the YouTube app from your television and putting “100% White Fullscreen” in the search engine and clicking on play. A white screen will appear, put the image mode to watch movies and we will turn to the side of the television, if it is EVO it will turn slightly pink, if not it will continue to look practically the same.

Three very simple systems that will let you know if you have bought the version with the EVO panel or the traditional OLED panel. In any case, LG has confirmed that from the second half of the year all the models produced will have this new improved panel, but it is better to do the pertinent checks just in case.
