Apple will implement a new requirement for its developers that is expected to go live on June 30 this year. This new implementation will require Apple developers to add the option to delete an account for their users.
Apps should offer an in-app way to delete user accounts
According to the MacRumors story, Apple will require all of its developers to not only add support for account creation but also delete the account. This means that if the app allows its users to sign up within the app, there must also be an “in-app way to delete said account later”.
When the Cupertino giant first made changes to its App Store in June of 2021, it actually included an account deletion rule. Apple initially wanted its developers to support account deletion long ago.
Company changed its timeline for required account deletion option
The original plan was to support account deletion by January 31, 2022. However, that deadline has been pushed far back to give developers more time to implement the changes.
Now, Apple will implement its new timeline and give developers only until the end of June to comply with them. By the end of June, the Cupertino giant will have an easy account removal option in the app for all apps.
Apple will need to make it easier to remove developers
As per the guidelines, the company requires the developers to make the removal very easy for the users. This means that apps that previously offered temporary disablement or deactivation will not suffice and will still need to add deletion to their options.
When it comes to account deletion for some highly regulated industries, Apple says the app can still provide a customer service flow to assist users while deleting their accounts. However, this does not apply to industries considered outside the highly regulated list.

Apple says it doesn’t need to delete accounts immediately or automatically if it takes time
According to Apple, industries that are not considered highly regulated should not make things difficult for their user. Because of this decision, the Cupertino giant noted that they do not require their users to call, send emails, or go through multiple steps in order to delete their account.
Apple just released a more detailed guideline on what to expect from developers when it comes to account deletion. Developers have already been given a timeline and the company expects to have an option to easily delete their apps by the end of June.
When new guidelines regarding account deletion are implemented, apps that fail to do so run the risk of violating Apple guidelines and may face penalties. However, there is a clause within the guidelines that says that if users have to delete manually and it takes time, Apple will not require their deletion to be automatic and immediate.
