Samsung claims that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 can be folded and unfolded 200,000 times without damage. To check it out, this youtuber is putting it to the test live.

The youtuber mrkeybrdwith more than 100,000 subscribers on his channel, has decided to test the strength of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, Samsung’s cheapest folding phone and also one of the most popular.

To do this, it has decided to embark on a challenge consisting of test the durability of the components that make up the hinge and the screen of the device, opening and closing the device until it breaks.

At the time of publishing this article, the video has more than 24 hours in broadcast and the number of times the device’s hinge mechanism has been used close to 60000.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 undergoes a most curious resistance test.

Will the Galaxy Z Flip 3 withstand the 200,000 folds that Samsung claims?

There has been much talk about the durability of folding mobilesespecially after the first generation of the Fold family had major resistance problems that forced Samsung to delay its market launch.

Luckily, little by little, the resistance of this type of device has been improving, to the point of reaching a level comparable to that of conventional smartphones. To this day, the latest models of the Galaxy Z family even are IPX8 certified that guarantees its resistance to water.

The main weak points of this type of device, since its inception, have been the central hinge and the screenespecially since manufacturers have had to leave glass aside to bet on other materials more flexible, but not as durable.

Still, Samsung claims that Galaxy Z Flip’s display and hinge mechanism has been tested to withstand more than 200,000 folds. The aforementioned youtuber wanted to put it to the test in a simple, but expensive way: opening and closing the device as many times as necessaryuntil it breaks.

At this time, the device does not appear to show signs of deterioration despite having been folded and unfolded nearly 60,000 times. Something expected, on the other hand, given that there are still about 140,000 folds to reach the figure indicated by Samsung itself.
