Qualcomm Snapdragon Insider Phone Not Received Updates for Months



As a whole, the Android world has received updates thanks to the strong efforts of smartphone makers in providing better security updates. But, they are not all good apples. Qualcomm debuted its “Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders” last year, priced at $1,500, but was bogged down by updates for months.

Qualcomm has barely updated its Snapdragon Insider phone

Last week a Reddit thread drew attention to Qualcomm leaving its Snapdragon Insider phone essentially dry without any updates. The last update arrived in March, and even then only delivered the January 2022 security patch, making the phone almost six months old.

This is clearly an issue, and it raised eyebrows, especially considering what Qualcomm promised when the device was launched. In a tweet surrounding the launch, Qualcomm said that the Insider device will receive four years of regular security updates, with Android 11 out-of-the-box.

Almost a year after that, the device still doesn’t have Android 12, but perhaps the bigger issue is that security updates aren’t arriving on that “regular” schedule.

Asus, which manufactures and maintains the device, put out a changelog that shows regular updates. Were Coming almost monthly between August and December of 2021, but hit a hard halt shortly thereafter.



However, this situation will be resolved soon. as XDA As pointed out, an update to a Reddit thread came from a Qualcomm representative who confirmed that the next update for the Snapdragon inside phone is arriving on June 20. It was not mentioned which security patch would be distributed, but one would expect it to be June .

However, sadly, the situation does not seem to be getting much better. Along with confirming the June update, Qualcomm also mentioned that the device will receive “regular” updates every 2-3 months.

It lags far behind the pace of Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy smartphones, and it’s certainly disappointing to see it on a device with Qualcomm’s namesake. What’s worse is that it’s on a device that costs $1,500Samsung and Google offer monthly updates for devices for less than 25% of that cost.
