Spotify may finally be bringing one of the most requested features to its mobile app

A new Community section will soon let you see what your Facebook friends are currently listening to

Spotify has been turning to more “social” features lately. It recently started riding the “live podcast” wave with Spotify Live (formerly known as Greenroom), while “Blends” lets you share your music tastes with a friend to get a unique playlist. allowed to merge. In fact, Spotify has leveraged the social network for music discovery since its early days thanks to its deep Facebook integration on its desktop version, and now, it’s finally ready to come to the mobile app as well. The app is all set to gain a new Community tab, which will let you keep up with your friends’ music sessions.

The new Community page is similar to the Friend Activity sidebar in the desktop version of Spotify, allowing you to see which of your playlists have been (and recently) updated, as well as allowing you to see what your playlists are like. What friends are listening to in real time. Just like on desktop, Spotify on mobile pulls your friends list from Facebook, everyone’s favorite privacy-invading social network.

If you want to give it a shot, some people have seen success by firing up Safari on iOS and navigating to “Spotify:Community” via the address bar. It doesn’t work on Chrome on Android, however, so you’re out of luck if you don’t have an iOS device.

However, we may have to wait a bit for the proper release. After all, Spotify itself has confirmed that it’s in the early stages of development, so even if you get the community to show up on your device, it’ll still feel incomplete. We’ll have to wait and see when it goes live.
