‘Rest in rest, mate’: Chris Evans tweets tribute to his iPhone 6S

Actor Chris Evans has revealed that his iPhone 6S has finally died, tweeting a short obituary to his faithful phone.

“RIP iPhone 6s,” light year voice actor tweeted on Thursday, “We had a great run. I’ll miss your home button. I won’t miss the fight night of trying to charge you. Or your grainy photos. Or your sudden 100% battery drop to 15% Totally dead within minutes. It was a wild ride. Rest easy, mate.”

It’s easy to understand why Evans would be facing problems with his iPhone until his untimely demise. Released on September 25, 2015, the iPhone 6S was part of Apple’s 9th generation of phones, now more than a few iterations. The iPhone 6S is geriatric by smartphone standards, which was discontinued when Apple released its 12th generation phones in 2018. We are currently in the 15th generation.

The iPhone 6S had some unexpected power issues when it was still fairly new, with Apple offering battery replacements in 2016. It is unclear if Evans was among those who took up the offer. But even though its iPhone 6S worked perfectly at the time, seven years of problem-free operation is asking a lot from any smartphone.

Despite the age of the iPhone 6S, the news that Evans hadn’t upgraded his phone before now is surprising. While he may be an internationally renowned actor who might just buy a new phone, Evans has never portrayed himself as someone who loves the latest technology.

“Dear all technology, remember the 90s when you just worked???” Evans tweeted in 2019. “I don’t need the ‘smart’ feature on my TV, thermostat, lights, music, refrigerator, security cameras, and fing car. You’re a huge pain in all our ass. You don’t deserve it.”

Few tech enthusiasts will literally be standing in line to be among the first to buy the latest new phone. Conversely, it seems that Evans is a member of the group that wisely chooses to make the most of their gadgets before demanding an upgrade, and doesn’t bother about using a phone that was discontinued four years ago. Is.

Evans also nodded to the home button of his iPhone 6S in his farewell. The feature was removed from Apple’s flagship phone in 2017 with the iPhone X, which may have been a contributing factor in the actor’s decision not to upgrade.

Luckily for the first Captain America of the MCU, Apple hasn’t completely abandoned the home button. While the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro rely on Face ID for their biometric unlock, the third-generation iPhone SE still uses the Home button, and was released this year as part of the current generation of phones.

The iPhone SE also shares a form factor with the iPhone 8, which is just a hair larger than the iPhone 6S, while its internal hardware is on par with the iPhone 13. Considering that Evans wants to keep up with Apple’s ecosystem, the iPhone SE sounds like it would be a pretty good pick for him, delivering more power inside a familiar build.

Whatever he decides to do, he may not have to decide right away. Unless Evans is already dashing to grab a new iPhone, there’s a chance his faithful old 6S has some last dying gasps: Evans’ tribute tweet was sent via iPhone.

Update: June 24, 2022, 2:27 PM Evans seems to have actually bought himself a new phone, sharing a picture of the device on Instagram. It appears to be an iPhone 13 or 13 Pro, which makes sense. He’s already proven he’s not a tech flagship, so it’s only fitting that he reach for Apple’s flagship phones only. It hurts to think he could have kept his home button, but maybe he’s actually ready to move on.
