Apple’s upcoming 15-inch MacBook Air: What do we know?

Rumors suggest that Apple is working on a larger version of the MacBook Air, which is expected to measure in at 15 inches, placing it on par with the MacBook Pro. This guide covers everything we know about the 15-inch MacBook Air so far.

Shape

The 2022 version of the MacBook Air measures in at 13.6 inches, so the 15-inch version will be significantly larger. Its size will be between 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, and it will be the largest version of the MacBook Air to date. A rumor suggests that the MacBook Air will be exclusively 15.2-inch.

At 15.2 inches, the MacBook Air will be 0.2 inches smaller than the previously available 15.4-inch MacBook Pro. With thinner bezels like the 2022 MacBook Air, the 15-inch MacBook Air could be significantly smaller than the 15.4-inch MacBook Pro.

Apple hasn’t offered the MacBook Air in two sizes since the 11-inch MacBook Air was discontinued in 2016.

design

The 15-inch MacBook Air is expected to use the same general design as the 2022 13-inch MacBook Air, which in turn takes design cues from the MacBook Pro. It will feature a flat-edged design with a large Force Touch trackpad, keyboard with function keys, and no fan.

Like the 2022 MacBook Air, it is expected to include a MagSafe charging port, a 1080p camera, and an upgraded speaker system.

show

Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Air isn’t expected to include Mini-LED or ProMotion Display technology, with features limited to MacBook Pro models.

M2 and M2 Pro Chips

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said that Apple is working on a 15-inch notebook for launch in 2023. He didn’t mention that this Mac would be the MacBook Air, but judging by the other rumours, it seems likely.

Kuo believes that the 15-inch MacBook will be available with both the M2 and 2M2 Pro chip options. The M2 chip used in the 2022 MacBook Air is expected to feature an 8-core GPU and up to a 10-core GPU, but we don’t have details about the M2 Pro just yet.

naming

Kuo has said that the 15-inch machine Apple is working on may not be in the MacBook Air line, but other rumors have referred to it as the Air.

launch date

A 15-inch MacBook with a bigger screen could be released soon in the spring of 2023 bloombergMark Gurman. Kuo has said the 15-inch machine will arrive in the second quarter of 2023 or so, and performance analyst Ross Young also believes it is coming in 2023.
