Using social networks is fun, but it can also be dangerous. Especially if they get into the wrong hands, such as minors. Dangerous challenges often arise, which put them in real danger. Instagram has therefore introduced a new feature to verify the age of users to minimize the number of children online.

The portal informed about this news XDA on your site. Instagram ‘s new age verification feature is available from today, but so far only in the United States. However, it is only a matter of time before it is used in Europe or even in Slovakia.

Instagram works with Yoti, a company that specializes in online age verification. The platform has always had a rule that its users must be older than 13 yearsto be able to use Instagram. Until now, it was enough to state the date of their birth, but many children circumvented this and stated an unrealistic age. They became the target of cyber attacks and often pedophiles.

You have 3 options to verify your age

Starting today, people in the United States must verify their identities while doing so they can do it in 3 ways. The first is to upload an identity card, the second is to send a video selfie and the third is to guarantee another person for the age stated in the registration.

If you submit a selfie video, your data will be processed by Yoti, and then your age will be verified. When done, the selfie will be removed from Meta and Yoti. The meta is straightforward, stating that the technology used is not looking for identity, but only trying to verify age.

As for liability by other persons, there are two conditions. One is for the person responsible for you to be 18 or older. At the same time, he must not be liable for anyone else. It will require a total of three people and will take approximately three days to complete.

What do you think of the new feature? In your opinion, is that right and would you like this change to come to Slovakia as well?
