- BeReal notifies you about screenshots, but the app will not send you a full notification.
- When someone takes a screenshot of your BeReal, a special icon will appear next to your picture.
- If you’re using the BeReal iPhone app, you’ll need to share your BeReal photo before you can see who took a screenshot of it.
It is generally considered bad practice to permanently save a photo that is only meant to last a day. That’s why most photo-focused social media apps taunt screenshot-takers by sending them a notification that they take a screenshot.
BeReal treats screenshots in a different way than most. See here how it works.
Yes, BeReal notifies users about screenshots
BeReal actively tracks people who take screenshots, and the app will warn you if someone takes a screenshot of your photo.
But unlike Snapchat, which sends you a full banner notification when this happens, BeReal treats screenshots more subtly. Instead of a notification, a small icon will appear next to your BeReal picture.
If you’re using BeReal on your iPhone, the icon will be a number telling you how many people have taken a screenshot. If you’re using the BeReal Android app, it’ll just be a yellow shutter icon, no matter how many people took a screenshot of it.

How to see who took a screenshot of your BeReal
Depending on which version of BeReal you use, iPhone or Android, you’ll need to go through various steps to see who took the screenshot.
In the iPhone app, tapping on the Screenshot icon will open a screen asking you to share your BeReal. The list of people taking screenshots will be blocked unless you share your BeReal with at least one other person.
The list of screenshots is locked behind the Share menu. be natural; William Antonelli / Insider
Comment: Sharing your BeReal through this menu will also share a direct link to your BeReal profile. In some cases, it may even try to include a pre-written ad that you shared a photo with to sign up for BeReal yourself.
But in the Android app, tapping on the screenshot icon will immediately show you everyone who took the screenshot, no questions asked.
