Kickstarter, video game blocked without refunds to supporters: “We have invested in cryptocurrencies”

In 2021, in a historical period in which the cryptocurrency has more and more resonance, a video game called Untamed Isles had earned over $ 500,000 on Kickstarter.

A year later, the game is basically deadand in a post on the game’s Steam page, the developers stated the following:

We need to pause the development of Untamed Isles and put the project on hold. There have been a myriad of factors that have caused our choice, but it all comes down to the financial inability to keep up with the demands of what we set out to do.

Untamed Isles is a very ambitious title being an open world MMORPG where it is possible to capture creatures. To work on this project we involved more than 70 staff members and worked tirelessly for more than 2 years to build the game we all dreamed of.

The truth is that the cost of development is high and there have been a lot of obstacles in the way for now. Since we started this journey in 2020, the economic landscape has changed dramatically both in general and in particular for cryptocurrency, and we are not confident in the current market. We have run out of financial resources and cannot continue development right now.

Apparently, as can be seen from the continuation of the press release, the cause of this pause in the development of Untamed Isles is linked to how the cryptocurrency market has evolved over the years:

We turned to the cryptocurrency market and expanded rapidly thanks to the positive interest. Following some events, however, we ended up heavily exposed. Crypto funds have become, and remain, essential to lead us to the release of the game. Until the cryptocurrency situation is resolved – and we are confident it will at some point – we will have to suspend development on this project.

Furthermore, on the official website of the site, in the FAQs section it was specified that “cash reserves are empty“, For which the development team”is unable to repay initial supporters“.

The “hiatus” of Untamed Isle is particularly strange given that just two weeks ago the team was confirming the launch date of the 6 October 2022. We will see how the situation will evolve in the coming days.
