Top 5 iPhone 14 “innovations” that Apple copied from Android

Last week, Apple released the iPhone 14 series, which officially went on sale on Friday night. Since the official release of this series, there has been a lot of ruckus about these devices. There are four models of the iPhone 14 series which include the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, the series has been largely disappointing given the lack of innovation, especially with the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. Nevertheless, since there are no direct rivals in the high-end market, the iPhone 14 series will be on sale again this time. It is worth noting that for the Pro series, these smartphones will not be available to the users till November this year.

There have been some negative reviews as the iPhone 14 series does not come with many upgrades. However, the Pro models come with some features that deserve some attention. Apart from the 48-megapixel lens, it comes with a smart island design. It was originally the slot for Apple’s pill screen. This has become a new function, which is getting hotly discussed across the network. However, these new features are not the first on the iPhone 14 series. The so-called new functions, including Smart Island, have been sported by Android makers such as Huawei and LG. Android Central believes that at least 14 functions on the iPhone 5 series have been stolen. Well, if we want to put it on a lighter note, we would say that these iPhone 14 functions take inspiration from Android manufacturers.

Five Android-inspired features on the iPhone 14 series

1. Smart Island: The LG V10 Has It

Smart Island may be the most attractive feature of the iPhone 14 series. To increase the appeal of the Pro series, Apple opened it up to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models only. However, if you think Apple has come up with some innovation, you are mistaken. This feature was already available on LG V10 mobile phones. The company has implemented a similar feature in other LG smartphones as well. Plus, LG’s rear UI design is similar to Smart Island

PS: In fact, Chinese manufacturers have also made interactive designs using the notch area like Vivo’s OrganOS system.

2. Punch-hole selfie lens: Huawei Nova4 takes the crown

While Apple is using punch-hole for the first time, the feature dates back to 2018 for Android makers. Ever since the Huawei Nova 4 launched this feature, there have been several revisions by various Android brands. Single punch-hole designs as well as pill-shaped punch-hole designs have been available for years. Apple did what it called an “exclamation mark” design, combining single punch-hole as well as pill-shaped punch-hole designs. However, it is not a creation of Apple and is not an innovation of the iPhone 14 series.

The Huawei nova4 is the first to use this design and many mobile phones already have such a punch-hole front lens. Thus, this is another Android-inspired work on the iPhone 14 series.

3. Always On Display

Another feature that is quite old and has been on Android is Always-on-display (AOD). Like Smart Island, Apple also reserves this feature for the iPhone 14 Pro series. This means that Apple considers it a top feature. However, it is important to note that Apple is not the innovator of this feature. So, if Apple didn’t innovate it, who did? Well, Apple’s rival, Samsung is the first company to have AOD always on.

4. Dynamic Refresh Rate

Apple iPhones have supported dynamic refresh rates since the iPhone 13 series. The company also introduced the promotion function, which is still an exclusive feature of the Pro series. The previous generation had a minimum refresh rate of 24Hz. However, the new iPhone 14 series can achieve a minimum of 1Hz, mainly with the AOD Always-On Display. However, a 1Hz ultra-low refresh rate is nothing new among Android makers. This feature dates back to Android manufacturers several years ago and the likes of the OnePlus 9 Pro and Find X3 Pro have long provided similar functions.

5. Apple Crash Detection

In a video description, Apple said, “The iPhone 14 Pro comes with Crash Detection, an important new safety feature that can detect a serious car accident and automatically call for help, even when You can’t”.. Add to this the new 48MP Pro camera and an entirely new display, and the iPhone 14 Pro redefines what a smartphone can do. Again.”

The car crash detection function is not only supported by the iPhone 14 series, but also a key function of the Apple Watch 8 series. However, this feature is not an innovation from Apple. Google’s Pixel 6 series mobile phones have supported it for a long time. In fact, there are indications that Google will provide such a feature in the Android system in the future.

conclusion

These may not have been a topic of discussion, but given that Apple claims so much glory for these features, it is important to reveal some information. Many Apple fans believe that a basic version of a feature is available when Apple releases it. For them, it doesn’t matter who used it first, if Apple is five years late, Apple is the “innovator” for the feature. However, this is only a fan’s point of view and no tech enthusiast has such views. Apple isn’t an innovative company, after all, so it appears its years of innovation are long gone. The company now looks at what Android manufacturers do and makes some changes. In the past, this was not Apple’s pattern.
