Destiny copyright takedown go rogue, Bungie are hitting the video

A “series of copyright removals” has been striking Luck Since late last week, music videos hosted on YouTube have been removed. While this type of action usually comes at the request of a publisher or studio, Bungie says they have nothing to do with it.

The issue was first raised in this Reddit thread last week, when it was noticed that the work of several prominent Luck “Music Collectors” was being removed, a particular pity for the community as their channels were helping to preserve the soundtracks for pieces of content both from Luck Gameswhich were no longer available in the games themselves.

Things escalated from there over the next few days, with more and more community members and more and more soundtrack videos removed from creators’ channels, before takedowns even began to expand to clips, people uploaded cutscenes from the game in which The only fragments were the soundtrack playing in the background.

Takedown doesn’t mean we’ve lost – even if it’s just temporary – access to these soundtracks, but that many members have Luck The community now has copyright strikes against their YouTube accounts as well.

The blame for the removal spree was originally laid at the feet of CSC by members of the community, which is an associate partner of Bungie. But when matters escalated, and Bungie’s own videos began to take a hit, it was clear something was amiss. A statement issued by the company earlier today reads:

We are aware of a series of copyright removals on YouTube and we are actively investigating. This includes content from our own Bungie channels. These actions are not being taken at the request of Bungie or our partners. Please standby for future updates.

The wording of that tweet – with its emphasis on actions not done at someone’s request – leaves the door open for automatic detection to misfire and their subsequent removal notices were the culprit. If that’s really the case, it’s another reminder that for all the convenience and entertainment YouTube provides, creators and community members this technocrat lives in even the deepest depths of hell that is late capitalism. .
