LG OLED Smart TVs from 2024 will offer better brightness levels and no burn-in problems thanks to this patent

One of the Achilles heels of OLED technology has to do with its low brightness levels. It is true that Samsung’s QD-OLED panels point to ways, not to mention the new LG OLED.EX, which improve the brightness level by 10% compared to EVO panels, but they still have a long way to go if they want compete with LCD technology. Although a Korean startup could have found the key.

We talk about lordin, an OLED materials startup that has filed a patent for an OLED technology with high light emission efficiency. The big problem with blue diodes has to do with their useful life, since it is much lower than that of red and green diodes. AND This startup of Korean origin has managed to develop a technology that manages to offer high efficiency and a longer useful life for the blue OLED materials used in OLED panels.

In the headline we have indicated that LG would be the great beneficiary of this new patent that can begin to be used in the manufacture of OLED panels in 2024. And the reason is that the CEO and founder of the company, Oh Hyoung-yun, has been working 25 years in the field of organic light-emitting diodes. Also, between 1997 and 2011 he worked at LG Electronics and LG Display in their OLED division, so the relationship between the two companies is really good.

Returning to the patent that they have registered, from Lordin they have affirmed that they want to commercialize it both in the manufacture of panels for mobile phones and smart televisions from 2024.

According to Lordin’s CEO, this new technology achieve 90% more light output efficiency than blue OLED diodes. To give you an idea of the improvement, Oh Hyoung-yun says that currently the blue OLED diodes offer 25% efficiency, which is a significant improvement.

For it, have managed to apply a triple driving current for a blue OLED diode, when this could only apply to red and black OLEDs. Until now, phosphorescent materials are used only for red and green, while fluorescence materials were used for the blue diode in an OLED panel.

As explained by Lordinhis new patent is based on using a technology that allows the speed of energy transfer to be controlled between the molecules within the material to increase the efficiency, and for this they use a dopant for material of blue OLED phosphorescence that promises to radically change the industry.

What advantages will it bring to future LG OLED Smart TVs

As we were saying, a phosphorescent blue OLED diode will offer much higher brightness levels, in addition to improving its energy efficiency and, therefore, its useful life. This would translate into more notable advantages for LG’s OLED TVs.

For exampleburning problems would remain a problem of the past, since the blue OLED diodes would take much longer to be damaged and cause this well-known failure in OLED Smart TVs. In addition, a cooling plate would not be necessary, the well-known “heat sink” that some televisions mount. Without going any further, the LG OLED G2 uses Brightness Booster, which is precisely a dissipation system that we already saw in the Panasonic OLED HZ2000 and HZ2000 of 2021 and 2020.

Undoubtedly, excellent news for the sector. And we will have to see how Samsung responds, because we know that its R&D team is working on the same technology to achieve more stable blue diodes so that its next generations of QD-OLED Smart TVs offer more brightness than ever.
