TVs that listen even if they are turned off: WebOS 22 proposes big changes in the new OLED and QNED from LG

For a few days it has been possible to reserve the new LG televisions of 2022, among which we find its new OLED and QNED models. The firm offers very interesting changes both in the technology of its panels and in the software itself. In this article we are going to focus precisely on those software changes with the arrival of WebOS 22the latest update to the operating system for LG TVs.

Our colleague Juan Carlos Lpez from crast.net has been able to test these new televisions first-hand, and while the analysis of the LG OLED C2 is cooking, we wanted to comment some of the most interesting changes in WebOS 22 and that will surely attract the attention of users.

WebOS 22 will transform our LG TV into a smart speaker

Throughout its different versions, WebOS has been adding quite interesting features to LG televisions, although some of the functions that are coming out end up being exclusive to the most recent models. WebOS 22 proposes features that expand the experience of your televisions.

In this case, LG has integrated a series of quite useful novelties. For the first time the profiles arrive on the firm’s televisions, which means that anyone can create a personalized profile in the home and maintain the recommendations and design of each user. In this way, when turning on the television, each of the family members will be able to choose their own profile.

Undoubtedly another of the novelties that come to WebOS 22 and that will be exposed to the rejection of a good part of users will be the possibility of transforming the TV into a giant smart speaker. This means that the TV will be able to listen even when it is turned off, being able to interact with the smart assistant just as we already do with speakers with integrated Google Assistant, Alexa or Siri. In this case, LG offers compatibility with the Google Assistant and Alexa.

Panel technologies and TV trends coming in 2022, explained

‘Always ready’ is a function that, in addition to leaving voice recognition activated while the TV is off, offers optimized wallpapers and background music through a mobile device.

Picture-in-picture modes and the possibility of sharing the image of the channels to another TV

Consuming multiple content sources at the same time has become the norm for many users and LG knows it. It is because of that have presented improvements as far as Picture-in-picture modes are concerned. In this way, we can enjoy a video game while playing a video, among other assumptions. In addition, this new version also will allow us to wirelessly share satellite or cable content through the Room-to-Room share feature to other LG TVs in the house. From the company they have assured that this last option will be exclusive for the C2 and G2 models.

Big improvements in gaming

The manufacturer is increasingly taking into account those who enjoy video games on their televisions, demonstrating it with its new 42-inch OLED panel size, being a good alternative to shuffling if what we are looking for is the best in image quality but in a PC monitor. As for your televisions, have improved their ‘Game Optimiser’ panel with interesting features.

One of the additions present in its TruMotion technology for its OLED panels is the possibility to activate or deactivate the option of ‘OLED Motion’, which is its black frame insertion technology. This increases the smoothness of the game, making 60fps titles appear smoother on your 120Hz panel. This can therefore decrease the maximum brightness of the TV to favor the gain in fluency.

Another interesting novelty is the addition of new game modes. And it is that now we can choose to change the game mode based on the genre that we are playing, whether it is a sports title, real-time strategy, first-person shooter, or RPG. Thus, the image will be optimized according to the genre we are playing. In addition, LG has also incorporated a specific mode for occasions when we play in the dark, lowering the brightness level, although it may compromise image accuracy.

Finally, LG also offers support for 21:9 and 32:9 aspect ratios., applying black borders to the top and bottom, and stretching the image. This above all will benefit those who want to enjoy this television as if it were a PC monitor.
